Category Import Using CSV

Forums Support Category Import Using CSV

Hey all,

Evaluating the app and it seems that the Category Import tool using csv, creates the parent and child categories in a random order. You must be using an async method to do this.

Can you fix this?

Reorganising several hundred categories is pretty annoying.

Also, in the Categories page, you can't drag a category down the list, if you have a very long list of categories. Once again, very annoying.

Any chance of disabling the async import? :-)

Whats your domain name? Seems you do not have any.

It seems that I can login to my Dashboard fine with my admin account, but logging into your main site requires another username. How odd, hence me using this account.

kristof@ko****.ms does not have any domain name.

And belongs to another customer with another email.

I think you must be using 2 different accounts...

Logged in as my proper account now. :-)

But yeah, the problem is still the same. Your import routine must be async in nature as the categories are added in random order.

Would be great if there was some sort of sort option in the UI, or at least take the sort order from the CSV file.

Have tried sorting the values in the CSV and it doesn't make a difference.

Also though the UI, you can't easily drag the categories down and up the screen if, the category needs to go right at the bottom of a long list, or at the top of a list.

You can add the categories before, then sort them and if the categories exists they do not get created again ;)

How can you sort the categories in the UI?

Also it seems that the Order property in the Category doesn't do anything.

As an example, I have set the category parent to Home, change the Order number and the category stays in the same place, no order has changed.

Any ideas? :-)

OK, it seems the the Ordering does work.

It seems when you create a Category via CSV, all the Home level Categories have an order of 1.

Using the Order option it has moved them into the right place now.

One of those gotchas it seems.

Remember this is the public forum not a private support ,)

we do not recommend more than 10/20 categories if you want your site to be fast and easy to use ;)
