Hello!
We are doing a lot of new things and we have just released a few changes.
- Now you can mark ads as sold, and you can set for how much as sold. You can also see which ads are sold on the panel. If you have the stock option when reaches 0 the ad will be marked automatically to sold ;)
- Added more texts to translations.
- generate hashtags for the auto post to social media
- to improve share widget
- and a few other minor improvements.
How marking an item as sold works today
Marking listings as sold is still part of every Yclas site, and the Yclas features page lists it under seller tools (sellers can edit, renew and mark items as sold). Here is what happens on a current site using the Nova theme, which new sites get by default.
For sellers: two clicks
- Open My Listings in the user panel, open the menu on the listing and choose Mark as sold.
- A small window asks for an Amount (Optional). Type the price the item actually went for, or leave it empty.
- The listing gets a grey Sold badge in My Listings, its stock is set to 0, and it drops out of the category and search results, which only show published listings.
- The listing page itself stays online, so links shared on social media or by email still work. If the listing had a Buy Now button, buyers now see a disabled Sold button instead.
What the sold price is used for
When a listing is marked as sold, Yclas records the sale as a paid order in the listing's currency, with cash as the payment method and the amount the seller entered. That gives you, the site owner, a record of real selling prices next to the asking prices. On a classifieds site that data is useful in three ways:
- Pricing help for sellers. The gap between asking price and sold price in a category tells you whether sellers are overpricing. You can point this out in your posting tips or newsletters.
- Proof that the site works. "Items sold this month" is a stronger message for new sellers than "listings posted". Ask sellers to mark items as sold so the numbers mean something.
- Less wasted contact. Buyers stop writing about items that are gone, which is one of the most common complaints on classifieds sites.
Stock: sold automatically
If you turn on the stock option in the payment settings, sellers can enter how many units they have. Each purchase made through the site's checkout lowers the stock by the quantity bought. When it reaches 0, the listing is marked as sold automatically and the seller gets an out of stock email with a link to edit the listing and add more units. When 5 or fewer units remain, the listing shows an "Only N left" note.
Sold listings and subscription plans
If your site sells subscription plans that limit how many listings a seller can publish, the Give extra ad on mark as sold option in the subscription settings decides whether marking a listing as sold gives the seller that slot back. With the option on, each sold listing adds one listing back to the seller's plan, up to the plan's limit. This rewards sellers who keep their listings up to date instead of leaving sold items online.
Bringing a listing back
If a sale falls through, the seller can activate the listing again from the same menu in My Listings. If your site moderates new listings, the administrator does this from the admin panel instead.
As always you do not need to do anything to benefit from this changes since your site get updated automagically ;)
Enjoy!
