Since this list was first published, India's online classifieds market has consolidated. A few big groups now take most of the traffic, while several small general ad sites have faded or changed their business. Here is what you should know before you post or browse.
The big players are now part of listed companies
- OLX India now belongs to CarTrade. CarTrade Tech bought OLX's classifieds and auto business in India for Rs 535.54 crore in August 2023. At the time, OLX had about 35 million monthly unique visitors (Business Today, August 2023). In its FY26 results (released 7 May 2026), CarTrade reported about 76 million average monthly unique visitors across its platforms in Q4 FY26, 95% of them organic, and 16% revenue growth for OLX India (Investywise, May 2026).
- 99acres leads property traffic. Info Edge reported that 99acres had a 49% web traffic share and a 53% app traffic share in January and February 2026, although its Q4 FY26 billings of Rs 163 crore were almost flat (Entrackr, 9 April 2026).

Scams have grown with the market
A Press Information Bureau report from 7 October 2025 says cybersecurity incidents in India rose from 10.29 lakh in 2022 to 22.68 lakh in 2024. It also says the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System has helped save more than Rs 5,489 crore across over 17.82 lakh complaints (PIB, "Curbing Cyber Frauds in Digital India"). On classified sites, a few habits prevent most losses:
- Never approve a UPI "collect" request, scan a QR code or share an OTP to receive money. Receiving a payment never needs your PIN.
- Do not pay "token" advances or courier fees for items or rentals you have not seen, especially when the seller says they are in the army or have been transferred.
- Meet in a busy public place, check the item, and pay only once you have it.
- If you are defrauded, call the national helpline 1930 immediately and report it on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Reporting quickly gives the best chance of freezing the money.
Where the opportunity is
