Hello, let's talk about the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican flag is very meaningful, the red signifies the bloodshed of those who fought for liberation while the blue represents God's protection.

The Dominican Republic is the most populous country in the Caribbean, as well as the island shared with Haiti being the second largest. It is also the largest economy in Central America and the Caribbean seeing as is the No.1 destination for tourists. Its advancement in infrastructure for the transportation of goods and telecommunications systems have also contributed to its economy.

Update: the Dominican classifieds market in 2026

A lot has changed since this list was first written. The Dominican section of Backpage disappeared when US federal authorities seized Backpage.com on 6 April 2018 (CNN). Corotos, founded in 2011 by the Norwegian group Schibsted, was sold to a group of local investors in 2020 when Schibsted left the country (Wikipedia). Today the market is led by one general site, one car site and a large e-commerce marketplace.

SiteFocusRank in the Dominican RepublicCategory rankVisitors from DR / US

MercadoLibreMarketplace#216#1 Ecommerce and Shopping, Other69.1% / 14.3%

Source: Similarweb website rankings, September 2026. Similarweb figures are modelled estimates, so use them to compare sites, not as exact visitor counts.

The car category stands out. In the same Similarweb data, SuperCarros visitors view about 18 pages per visit and stay almost 7 minutes, against about 11 pages and 5.5 minutes on Corotos. Buyers comparing vehicles browse deeply, which is why a specialist site can rank above the general leader. Similarweb's free report shows too little traffic for smaller general sites such as Clasi Dominicana to receive a country rank.

Much informal buying and selling also happens on social media. DataReportal's Digital 2026: The Dominican Republic report (published November 2025) counts 10.5 million internet users, or 91.0% of a population of 11.5 million. It also counts 7.89 million social media user identities, 6.10 million Facebook users and 5.10 million Instagram users.

How to choose where to post: use SuperCarros for vehicles, Corotos for general items, property and services, and Computrabajo (now at do.computrabajo.com) for jobs. If you sell to Dominicans abroad, MercadoLibre gets the largest share of US visitors (14.3%) of the three. If you plan to launch your own site: the vehicle example shows that a focused category can beat a general site. A Spanish-language niche, such as one city, one trade or one property type, with listings shared on Facebook and Instagram to bring in the first users, is a more realistic start than another general classifieds site.
