Top 3 Classifieds sites in Portugal

Hey friends!

We are receiving a lot of emails asking for Top classified sites in some countries. Some of you are looking for inspiration and some know your competitors. We used to do this kind of blog post but we stopped them to focus ourselves on more important things.

But from today we are going to return the blog post and create a post/week: Top classifieds sites in...[Country]. We will change it every week.

Let me introduce Portugal for today's post, an awesome country in the south of Europe. It is a small country but has amazing beaches, nice cities, friendly people, green lands and... Classifieds and Marketplace sites. Today we are going to talk about the Top Marketplaces in Portugal.

Portugal's classifieds market in 2026: who leads now, and the rules every seller should know

Portugal's online classifieds have consolidated since this list was first written. Mercado Livre's Portuguese site no longer exists: mercadolivre.pt now simply redirects to Mercado Libre's corporate site (checked October 2026). CustoJusto, launched by Schibsted in 2008 as a Portuguese version of Sweden's Blocket, has been majority Portuguese-owned since 2018 and 100% Portuguese-owned since 2023. Meanwhile Vinted has become a major force in second-hand fashion.

The sites Portuguese users actually visit (Similarweb, September 2026)

SiteWhat it is forRank among all websites in Portugal
idealista.ptProperty to buy and rent (#1 real estate site)#11
olx.ptGeneral classifieds#18
standvirtual.comCars (#1 in its vehicles category)#52
vinted.ptSecond-hand fashion (#1 in its category)#55
imovirtual.comProperty (#2 real estate site)#74
custojusto.ptGeneral classifieds#160

Two lessons stand out. First, the general marketplace is a one-horse race: OLX is far ahead of CustoJusto. Second, the vertical sites (property, cars, fashion) now hold most of the other top positions. For a new marketplace in Portugal, a focused niche is a far more realistic entry point than another general site.

Taxes: when platforms report your sales (DAC7)

Under the EU's DAC7 directive, marketplaces such as OLX, Vinted, eBay and Wallapop must report a seller to the tax authority once they make more than 30 sales or more than EUR 2,000 in sales in a calendar year. The limit counts per platform, so 25 sales on Vinted and 25 on OLX do not add up (e-konomista, May 2026). Being reported does not by itself mean tax is due. Selling your own used items for less than you paid for them is not taxable income. Buying and reselling regularly for profit, however, counts as a business activity: you must register it with the tax authority, issue receipts and declare the income as Category B.

Safety: the MB WAY scam aimed at sellers

The most common fraud on Portuguese classifieds targets the seller. A "buyer" offers to pay by MB WAY and then guides the victim through steps at an ATM or in the app that actually hand over access to their account. In an April 2026 alert, the PSP (Portugal's police) also warned about fake payment requests and "accidental transfer" refund tricks. Its core rule is simple: you never need to enter a PIN or a code to receive money. OLX publishes its own guide to avoiding MB WAY fraud.
