Germany's online classified market is led by one site: Kleinanzeigen (formerly eBay Kleinanzeigen) is where most Germans buy and sell second-hand goods, and it ranks among the 10 most visited websites in the country. Around it sit specialist German classifieds: mobile.de and AutoScout24 for cars, ImmoScout24 and immowelt for property, Vinted for clothes, and Facebook Marketplace, Quoka, markt.de and Locanto as general alternatives. Below are the 15 German classifieds sites worth knowing in 2026, what each is best for and what it costs to post.
In short
- Kleinanzeigen (formerly eBay Kleinanzeigen) is the market leader and free for private sellers, with Facebook Marketplace, Quoka, markt.de and Locanto as general alternatives.
- For cars use mobile.de or AutoScout24, for property ImmoScout24 or immowelt, for shared flats WG-Gesucht, and for second-hand clothes Vinted.
- Sicher bezahlen on Kleinanzeigen costs the buyer 0.50 euros plus 4.5% of the price and its buyer protection covers shipments within Germany only.
- Platforms report sellers to the tax office from 30 sales or 2,000 euros a year on one platform, but occasional sales of personal items stay tax-free.
- Keep chats on the platform, never click payment links sent in messages, and avoid PayPal Friends payments to strangers.

The German online classified market in 2026

Germany's classifieds market has consolidated since we first wrote this list. As of October 2026:
- Kleinanzeigen is the market leader. eBay Kleinanzeigen was renamed Kleinanzeigen on 16 May 2023 and moved to kleinanzeigen.de, when it had about 40 million monthly users (Wikipedia, citing Handelsblatt). Similarweb ranks kleinanzeigen.de as the 10th most visited website in Germany (Similarweb, September 2026).
- A few groups own the big portals. Adevinta runs Kleinanzeigen and mobile.de; a consortium led by Permira and Blackstone completed its takeover of Adevinta in May 2024 (Autohaus, May 2024). ImmoScout24 belongs to Scout24, and immowelt to AVIV Group. AutoScout24 became part of a new group, Autonex, launched on 13 October 2026; the AutoScout24 brand stays (Autonex press release, October 2026).
- Quoka is still the main general alternative. It ranked #321 among all websites in Germany in September 2026, and its largest audience group is aged 55 to 64 (Similarweb).
- Kalaydo is now only a job board. In 2021 it was turned into a pure job board without notice, and its other marketplaces and user ads were deleted (Wikipedia).
- Two freelance sites are gone. twago.com now redirects to Randstad's talent-pool.com, and projektwerk redirects to freelancermap.de.
- Property portals have merged. AVIV announced on 3 February 2026 that it would discontinue Immonet to focus on immowelt (Immobilien Zeitung). Immonet.de now redirects to immowelt.de.
What a sale on Kleinanzeigen costs
Listing is free for private sellers; businesses pay for PRO packages. If the buyer uses Sicher bezahlen (secure payment), a service fee of €0.50 plus 4.5% of the item price applies, so €9.50 on a €200 item. The payment provider Adyen holds the money until the buyer confirms the item arrived. Buyer protection covers items that are never shipped, that differ substantially from the listing, or are counterfeit, wrong or incomplete. It applies only to shipments within Germany and excludes digital goods and perishables (Kleinanzeigen help center).

The tax-reporting rule every seller should understand
Under the Plattformen-Steuertransparenzgesetz (PStTG), Germany's version of the EU's DAC7 rules, platforms must report a seller to the Federal Central Tax Office (BZSt) once that seller reaches 30 sales or €2,000 in revenue on one platform in a calendar year. The deadline is 31 January of the following year. The report includes the seller's name, date of birth, tax ID, address, bank details, transactions, proceeds and fees (Steuertipps, March 2026).
Three points are often misunderstood:
- The thresholds count completed sales, not listings.
- Kleinanzeigen only reports sales paid through its own payment system.
- Being reported does not create a new tax by itself (FIBU Magazin).
Occasional sales of everyday personal items stay tax-free. Regular resale for profit, or selling valuable items within the speculation period (Spekulationsfrist), can be taxable (Steuertipps).
General German classifieds sites
Kleinanzeigen
The first place to list almost anything in Germany: furniture, electronics, bikes, baby gear, pets, services, cars and flats. Private ads are free, you can sell for collection or with shipping, and the app is the main way most people use it.
Facebook Marketplace
Built into Facebook, so buyers can see who you are and message you straight away. Listing and selling for local pickup is free. It works best for quick sales of everyday items in your area.
Quoka
A long-running general classifieds site with categories from household goods and electronics to pets, property, jobs and personal ads, plus a "Zu verschenken" (free to collect) section. Posting is free; highlighting an ad costs extra. It has apps for iOS and Android.
markt.de
Free classifieds across Germany for goods, animals, property, jobs and services, with a large personal-ads section. Posting is free; a paid Premium membership adds features. We could not find a current app in the App Store, so use the website.
Locanto
Local classifieds for every German city, run by Yalwa GmbH in Wiesbaden. Posting is free and there is an app. It has fewer listings than Kleinanzeigen, so it works best as a second place to post.
Second-hand fashion

Vinted
The go-to site for second-hand clothes, shoes and accessories, plus children's items and books. Sellers pay no fees; the buyer pays a Vinted fee at checkout that funds buyer protection, and shipping labels are built in.
Vehicles

mobile.de
Germany's largest car marketplace, with new and used cars, motorbikes, vans and trucks from dealers and private sellers. Private sellers can place a free basic ad within limits on price and number of ads; Standard and Premium ads with more photos and visibility are paid.
AutoScout24
The main rival to mobile.de, also strong in other European countries. Private listings are free, it gives a price estimate when you list, and it offers a free option to sell directly to a partner dealer.
TruckScout24
A marketplace for commercial and leisure vehicles: trucks, vans, construction and farm machinery, trailers, buses, motorhomes and caravans. It offers a one-off listing for private sellers and paid accounts for dealers; check its price page before you list.
Real estate

ImmoScout24
Germany's largest property portal for homes to rent or buy. Private landlords can place a free basic rental ad for a short period with a limited number of enquiries (conditions); longer and sale listings are paid, priced by property type, location and duration.
immowelt
The second big property portal for houses, apartments and land, now also home to Immonet's listings. Check its price list before posting as a private owner.
WG-Gesucht
The main portal for shared flats (WGs), rooms and short-term rentals, popular with students. Private ads are free; boosts, a Pro plan for landlords and a Plus plan for seekers are paid.
Freelance and jobs
freelance.de
A project marketplace for freelancers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, strong in IT. A profile is free; an EXPERT membership removes the application limit, and companies pay on success.
freelancermap
A German project board for freelancers, which projektwerk now redirects to. Creating a profile is free with no placement fees; paid upgrades are available.
Kalaydo
Once a general classifieds site in western Germany, Kalaydo is now only a job board, from minijobs and apprenticeships to full-time roles. Use it for jobs, not for selling things.
Safety tips for buyers and sellers

- Keep the conversation on the platform. Scammers often ask to move to WhatsApp or email.
- Never click payment links sent in messages, and never share bank logins or card codes to "receive" money.
- For shipped items, use the site's own payment with buyer protection (for example Sicher bezahlen on Kleinanzeigen). Avoid "PayPal Friends" payments to strangers, which have no buyer protection.
- Meet in a public place for local sales, check the item before paying, and bring someone along for expensive items.
- Be wary of prices far below market value, fake shipping confirmations and pressure to decide quickly.
How we checked these sites
We checked every site in this list in October 2026: that it still works and operates in Germany, its current name and address, what it is used for, whether private posting is free and what is paid, and whether it has an app (in the German App Store). We used the sites themselves, their help pages and company announcements, and dated public data from Similarweb. Fees and free-ad limits change often, so check each site's own price page before you post.
If you would rather run a classifieds site for your own town, region or niche, you can build one with Yclas.
