Dear Yclas friends,
According to the latest research on statista.com, Ad spending in the Classifieds segment amounts to US$517m in India for 2020. Furthermore, Ad spending is expected to show an annual growth rate (CAGR 2020-2023) of 3.6%, resulting in a market volume of US$575m by 2023. The market is expected to sufficiently grow by focusing on integration, monetization, and management.
There’s no doubt that within the past 20 years, the e-commerce market has become one of the fastest-growing channels in the Indian economy with revenues reckoning 23 billion USD in 2015.
There are plenty of classified websites available in India, ready to post your ads for free. The websites I am listing are not only general classified sites where you can sell and buy goods but real estate, jobs, services, personal ads, vehicles, employment, computers, packers and movers, tickets, as well as travel and vacation options for all Indian cities.
2026 update: who still has the traffic, and what changed
This list was first written in 2020, and India's classifieds market has changed a lot since then. Before you pick a site, here is how the five sites below look today. The rankings come from Similarweb's ranking of classifieds websites in India for September 2026 (updated 1 October 2026).
| Site | Similarweb, September 2026 | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| OLX.in | #1 classifieds site in India | Still the clear leader, but posting is no longer unlimited. OLX sets a free-ad limit per category, subcategory and location. Once you reach it, you have to buy a package, and each ad stays live for 30 days. |
| Quikr | #5 classifieds site in India | No longer number one. Its accounts for FY22 showed revenue of Rs 49.1 crore (down 19%), a loss of Rs 21 crore and about Rs 8 crore in cash (OnlineMarketplaces, August 2023). |
| Click.in | Not in the top five | Still online, but no longer one of the biggest sites. |
| Clickindia | Not in the top five | Still online, as a smaller, niche option. |
| Locanto | No India-specific ranking | The old India addresses no longer work: locanto.in now redirects to the global locanto.org site. |
How to choose in 2026
- For the most buyers, start with OLX, but check the free limit for your category before you post. An ad posted in the wrong category still uses up that category's limit, even if you move it later.
- For property, jobs or cars, a specialist portal in that category usually reaches more serious buyers than a general site with a shrinking audience.
- For small sites, look at recent activity: the date of the newest ads in your city and category tells you more than any "top 10" list.
Stay safe when buying and selling
Online fraud has grown with the market. A Government of India backgrounder (PIB, 8 October 2025) reports that cybersecurity incidents rose from 10.29 lakh in 2022 to 22.68 lakh in 2024. Meet in public places, inspect the item before you pay, and never share an OTP or pay an advance "token" to a stranger. If you are defrauded, call the national helpline 1930 straight away, or file a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The portal also has a "Check Suspect" search for mobile numbers, email addresses and other details that have already been reported.
