The EU Parliament spent 4 years preparing and debating until the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was finally approved on 14 April 2016. Now, and this is what’s important, the enforcement date it’s almost here: May 25th, 2018. When that day arrives, every organization in non-compliance can face some serious penalties.
The are several changes to the law, especially changes regarding the procedural ways in which the law will be executed in the European Union and how it will impact the rest of the world.
The EU General Data Protection Regulation will have an impact on EU citizens and citizens from around the world. But it will particularly affect the US with many prejudicial changes.
In addition, the dissolution of the EU-US Safe Harbor provision will change considerably the way the EU treats the transfer of data to the US. On the other hand, the newest EU-US Privacy Shield hasn’t been tested yet.
The Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC is being replaced by the EU GDPR to control and coordinate data privacy laws in Europe. Its mission is to safeguard the EU citizens and to improve the way organizations deal with data privacy.
If you want to avoid fines and ensure the safety of your users, we highly recommend you generate your GDPR Privacy Policy. And remember that you only have until May 25th to do this!
