How These Sites Compare in 2026: Who Still Has the Buyers
Free classified sites rise and fall quickly, so we re-checked every site above in October 2026. For each one we took the "Total visits" figure for the last three months and the category rank from Similarweb's free overview (data labelled September 2026), and added the current leader in each country for comparison. Similarweb figures are estimates, not audited numbers, but they show the differences in size between these sites well.

What changed since 2020
The biggest change is concentration. In India, OLX now has about 30 times Quikr's estimated traffic, and Click.in has fallen far behind both. In Australia, the two small free sites above are effectively gone, while Gumtree remains the category leader. Gumtree has also changed owners: in August 2022 Adevinta sold Gumtree Australia, CarsGuide and Autotrader to The Market Herald for US$60 million.
The other big change is Facebook Marketplace, which this list did not include in 2020. In its 13 November 2025 update, Meta said one out of four young adult daily Facebook users in the US and Canada come to Marketplace. It also said Marketplace now shows eBay and Poshmark listings in its feed. In many countries, free general-purpose posting now comes down to two places: the national leader and Facebook.
How to choose where to post today
- Check that the site is alive before you write an ad. Look for listings dated this week in your category and city. A copyright year several years old or a site with no new posts is a warning sign.
- Go where your buyers are, not where posting is easiest. One ad on the national leader (Craigslist, Gumtree, OLX) usually reaches far more people than ten ads on small directories.
- Read the fine print on "free". Some sites now limit free ads to a set period (Click.in advertises 60 days) or charge for some categories.
- Consider niche sites for niche items. Specialist marketplaces (machinery, horses, local trades) have fewer visitors, but more of them are serious buyers.
