What made it work

Machinery sites grew out of trade magazines.

Machinery Trader and Equipment Trader followed the printed trade papers that dealers and contractors have read for decades. The habits carried over: dealer stock, honest specs, and a phone number to call about a price.

Make, model and hoursA contractor knows the machine they want. The site has to find it by make, model, hours and year in two filters.
Dealer stockMost machines come from dealers, whose whole yard is online and kept up to date.
Price on requestMany machines show no price. The listing is there to start a conversation and a quote.
PaperworkSerial numbers, inspection reports and service history decide a sale worth tens of thousands.
Day one or later

What a heavy equipment classifieds script needs at launch.

Pick the kinds of equipment you list in the sign-up wizard and Yclas adds the fields for them: every machine gets make, model, year, condition and serial number, then hours, power and operating weight for plant, drive type for tractors, lift capacity for forklifts. You do not design the forms yourself.

Where to compete

Aim your Machinery Trader clone at one region or machine type.

The big equipment portals list stock from across a continent. Buyers still prefer a machine they can inspect within a day's drive, in their own language, with a price that includes their VAT. That is the opening:

  • a country or region whose dealers have no site of their own;
  • one kind of machine, such as forklifts, compact plant or vineyard tractors;
  • one industry: forestry, mining, catering or labs.

Each make, model and location with live stock gets its own landing page, so "used Caterpillar 320" in your region has somewhere to land.

The machine page On with the Equipment pack · every theme

Specs, price type and paperwork on one page.

Every machine shows a key specs block, its price type, the dealer and a one-click PDF spec sheet. Sellers attach up to five PDFs, such as inspection reports, manuals and service records, and listings with an inspection report get a badge.

  • Price on request hides the price and puts Request a quote first.
  • Serial checked is a mark your team sets after checking the serial number; it is not a stolen-equipment check.
  • Finance estimate and optional transport-quote links to your partners.

Dealer yards and feeds Business accounts on Professional

Every dealer's yard online, updated on a schedule.

Dealers upload a CSV or give a CSV or XML link, up to 1,000 machines a run. Columns like year of manufacture, meter reading and stock number are matched for them, and "4,250 h" is read as 4,250 hours. Their page shows every machine with filters for type, make, year, hours and price.

  • Leads per machine: calls, WhatsApp, messages and quote requests.

Hire and auctions Bookings and auctions on Professional · auctions on Nova

Rent machines out, or sell them to the highest bidder.

Mark a machine for hire and it shows prices per day or week, a calendar and a booking request that goes to its owner. Switch on auctions and a seller can list a machine with a starting price, a reserve and a buy-now price, with bids that extend the end time when they come in late.
