Canada's classifieds in 2026: the real leaders, CRA reporting and scam data
Any list of Canadian classifieds has to start with Kijiji. It is Canada's #1 classifieds site and the #83 most-visited website in the country, with 95% of its traffic coming from Canada (Similarweb, September 2026). Launched by eBay in 2005, it has been owned by Norway's Adevinta since June 2021 (Wikipedia). The category leaders in the rest of this list rank as follows:

For everyday goods, the practical choice in 2026 is Kijiji plus Facebook Marketplace. Quebec sellers should also try LesPAC, which Similarweb lists among Kijiji's closest competitors.
Selling a lot? Platforms now report you to the CRA
Since 1 January 2024, Canada's digital platform reporting rules have required marketplaces to report sellers to the Canada Revenue Agency each year by 31 January. A seller of goods is excluded only if they made fewer than 30 sales and received no more than C$2,800 in the year. Go over either limit and the platform reports your name, tax number, bank account details, quarterly sales and the fees it withheld (EY tax alert). Rentals and personal services have no small-seller exclusion, so even occasional ones are reportable. Being reported is not a tax bill in itself, but if you resell for profit, keep records of your costs.
Merchandise fraud in 2025
The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre received over 112,000 fraud reports involving more than $704 million in losses in 2025. Merchandise fraud, which includes fake listings and non-delivery, was 7th by number of reports: 2,596 reports, 2,222 victims and $11.7 million lost (CAFC Top 10 frauds of 2025). The CAFC's advice applies directly to classifieds: learn how a payment method works and whether it has fraud protection before you use it, never accept money in order to forward it to a third party, and take five minutes to ask more questions before paying. Report fraud at 1-888-495-8501.
