State of Classifieds 2026: The Biggest Classifieds Sites in Every Country

Our yearly report on classifieds in 100+ countries: the leading sites for goods, cars, property and jobs, who owns them, what changed and where to start.

State of Classifieds 2026: The Biggest Classifieds Sites in Every Country

Every country has its own place to sell a used car, rent a flat or find a buyer for an old sofa. In France it is Leboncoin, in Russia Avito, in Turkey Sahibinden, in Nigeria Jiji, in Japan Mercari and in the US still, just about, Craigslist. Behind those local names sits a much smaller list of owners, and in 2025 and 2026 that list changed more than in any year since eBay sold its classifieds business in 2020.

This is our first yearly State of Classifieds report. It covers more than 100 countries, region by region: the leading general classifieds site, the leaders for cars, property and jobs, who owns them, what a private seller pays to post, and what changed this year. It ends with the openings we found: countries, cities and categories where no local site leads, or where the leader is weak. The country tables are also a free download (CSV), so you can sort and filter them yourself.

The short version

  • A few groups own most of the big sites. Adevinta (owned since May 2024 by the buyout firms Permira and Blackstone1), Vend (formerly Schibsted Marketplaces), OLX (Prosus), Dubizzle Group, Jiji, Carousell and a handful of listed vertical portals own the leading site in most of the countries in our tables.
  • The biggest group is being sold in pieces. Since the 2024 buyout, Adevinta has sold its Irish business, its 50% stake in Austria's willhaben and the whole Spanish business, and a stock market listing of mobile.de is being studied2.
  • General classifieds are becoming shops. The big general sites now hold the buyer's money, arrange shipping and take a fee per sale. At Vend, transaction revenue in second-hand goods rose 23% in late 2025 while ad revenue fell 19%3.
  • The money is in cars, homes and jobs. Listed vertical portals report operating or EBITDA margins of about 62% to 78%: Rightmove 70%4, Baltic Classifieds Group 78%5. General sites fight Facebook Marketplace and Vinted for attention.
  • Big names have left whole regions. OLX closed or sold most of its Latin American sites in 2022-2023, and in 2025 agreed to sell its Central Asian ones. In Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador no local general site has taken its place6,7.

How we built this report

We checked each country's leading sites against a source dated 2024 or later: company reports and results, stock exchange filings, national and trade press (Online Marketplaces, Reuters and others), and Similarweb's and Semrush's public rankings for September 2026. Where a fact could change and we could not find a recent source, we left the cell empty and marked it with a dash rather than guess. The sources are numbered in the text and listed at the end.

Three notes on the numbers:

  • "Leading" means the biggest by audience in that country and category, usually by Similarweb's ranking, or Semrush's where Similarweb has no category data. It is not a judgment of quality.
  • Traffic figures are estimates. Similarweb counts website visits, not app use, so it understates app-first sites (common in Africa, Asia and the Middle East). Its public pages give the total for the last three months; we say so wherever we quote one, and divide by three where we give a monthly figure. We use its ranks more than its visit counts.
  • Revenue is as reported, in the company's own currency and financial year. Private companies such as Craigslist, Adevinta (since 2024) and Jiji publish little, so their figures are estimates or older.

Facebook Marketplace competes in nearly every country. Meta does not publish country figures, so the tables name it only where it is clearly the leader or the main rival.

Ten things that changed in classifieds in 2025-2026

1. Private equity bought the biggest groups, then started selling them in pieces

The two largest European groups are now owned by buyout firms, and both are being broken up. Adevinta's owners have sold Ireland, willhaben and Spain to focus on Germany, France and Benelux2, and are studying a listing of mobile.de (see Germany). KKR and CPP did the same with Axel Springer's classifieds: they agreed to sell Yad2 to another buyout firm, Apax, below the US$1 billion to US$1.2 billion they had hoped for18. The bet is that single-country, single-category sites are worth more apart than together. Analysts at Jefferies put Adevinta's break-up value well above the take-private price19, but listed peers have lost value since: Vend cut the value of its Adevinta stake by NOK 2.8 billion in late 20253.

2. A new round of cross-border deals

Buyers came from outside the usual European circle. CoStar, an American commercial-property data company, bought Domain, Australia's number two property portal, for about US$1.9 billion20. Naver agreed to buy the rest of Wallapop, valuing it at €600 million21. The deal closed in January 2026, and Wallapop says it has more than 21 million monthly users in Spain, Italy and Portugal22. OLX bought La Centrale in France while leaving Latin America and car dealing7. REA agreed to sell Housing.com in India, keeping a stake in the buyer23. Jiji launched in Bangladesh in 2025 and then bought the local leader, Bikroy24. Not every bid lands: REA walked away from Rightmove on 30 September 2024 after four rejected proposals, the last worth about 781 pence a share25.

3. General classifieds are turning into transactional marketplaces

The old model was simple: a buyer saw an ad, called the seller and paid cash in person. The large general sites now want to handle shipping and payment and take a fee on each sale. At Vend, transactional revenue in its second-hand goods business grew 23% in the fourth quarter of 2025, while advertising revenue there fell 19%3. In the UK, Gumtree signed its first delivery deal, with ShipStation, so sellers can print labels and buyers can track parcels inside the site; it describes the aim as becoming a "fully transactional online marketplace"26. Carousell's resale business (it buys, checks and resells phones and luxury goods itself) grew 40% and made up 45% of revenue in 202527. leboncoin, which already calls itself France's second e-commerce player after Amazon, planned to add PayPal next to Apple Pay in its secure payment service in early 202528. The catch: buyer fees annoy users who were used to free deals, and ad income falls as sales move to the fee model.

4. Vinted grew past €1 billion and moved beyond clothes

Vinted, which charges buyers a protection fee instead of charging sellers, had 2025 revenue of about €1.1 billion, up 38%, on €10.8 billion of goods sold. Net profit fell to €62 million as it spent on new countries and new categories such as sports goods and collectibles13. It now runs its own parcel carrier, Vinted Go, in five countries, offers more than 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points across Europe through partners, and is moving users onto its own wallet, Vinted Pay. It also entered Latvia, Estonia and Slovenia in 202529. For general classifieds sites in Europe, Vinted is now the main rival for small, shippable goods.

5. Vertical sites take the money

Sites for cars, property and jobs charge dealers and agents monthly fees, and they keep raising prices. Rightmove's underlying operating margin was 70% in 20254. Scout24's margin was 62.5%30, and Auto Trader's was 63%31. REA grew revenue with flat listings, mostly through a 13% rise in "yield" (revenue per listing)23. At OLX, motors and real estate grew fastest, by 24% and 23% in local currency in the year to March 202532. Compare the general sites: Vend's revenue fell 1% in 20253, and Carousell only reached positive EBITDA (profit before interest, tax and depreciation) in 202527.

6. Facebook Marketplace has the reach, and the scam problem

Facebook Marketplace is the biggest place to post a free local ad in much of the world. Meta gives no user count for it. Trust is the weak point. Internal Meta documents reviewed by Reuters projected that about 10% of its 2024 revenue, roughly US$16 billion, would come from scam and banned-goods ads; Meta called the estimate "rough and overly-inclusive"33. In the UK, Lloyds Bank said 68% of fraud reports from its customers start on a Meta platform, including fake ads for cars and rentals34. Dedicated sites use this as a selling point. Carousell, for example, says more than 99% of transactions on its sites are completed without a scam27.

7. AI now writes the ad

Posting an ad used to mean typing a title, a description and a price. Now many sites draft it from a photo. leboncoin's tool, shown in December 2024, suggests a description, a price and a delivery method from one photo and a title28. In May 2025 it added a version for used cars that also uses the number plate, and it says AI-assisted ads for consumer goods perform about 20% better, without saying how that is measured35. eBay began a slow rollout of its photo-based "magical listing" tool in its German app in March 202536. Avito plans to spend 12 billion rubles on generative AI over five years and said its AI tools earned 670 million rubles in 202437. OLX reports 55 AI uses, mostly search, moderation and fraud checks32, and Carousell says a listing can take three seconds27. Faster listing means more stock, but it also makes fake ads cheaper to produce.

8. Classifieds moved into chatbots

The new search box is often a chatbot. Zillow launched an app inside ChatGPT in October 2025 that shows listings, photos and prices in the chat and sends users back to Zillow to book a viewing38. leboncoin followed in February 2026 with a ChatGPT app covering its roughly 89 million listings39. For the big brands, this is a way to stay visible when people ask an AI assistant instead of typing a query into Google. Smaller sites without such deals depend more on search engines, so changes in how Google shows results matter more to them.

9. Regulators now see every seller

Two EU laws changed life for platforms and frequent sellers. Under DAC7, in force since 1 January 2023, platforms report sellers' identity and earnings to tax authorities each year; sellers of goods are left out only if they make fewer than 30 sales and under €2,000 a year40. The report includes each seller's name, date of birth, address, tax number, amounts earned and the bank account used, so a casual seller who passes the threshold becomes visible to the tax office40. The Digital Services Act has applied to all platforms since 17 February 2024, with fines of up to 6% of global turnover41. The UK has matching seller-reporting rules (see Western Europe). For classifieds, this means collecting more data on sellers, especially professional ones, and having clear ways to report illegal listings. The cost of compliance falls hardest on small sites, while big groups can spread it across many countries.

10. Craigslist's long slide, and the apps that replaced it

The AIM Group estimates Craigslist's revenue at about US$302 million in 2024, down 20% in a year and about 70% below its 2018 peak of US$1.035 billion. It is still the top US general classifieds site by revenue and traffic42. The growth went to app-first sites. Karrot (Danggeun Market) in Korea had more than 21 million monthly users and 2025 revenue of KRW 270.7 billion, up 43%, mostly from local advertising15. Mercari's revenue rose 19% to ¥229.3 billion in the year to June 202643, with about 24 million monthly users on its marketplace reported14. Mercari's marketplace handled ¥1.29 trillion of sales in that year, up 15%14. Both treat the phone as the main way to post: one photo, a location and a chat window. For anyone starting a classifieds site, the lesson of the decade is that a free, simple, local site can still win, but only if it is easier and safer on a phone than Facebook.

Who owns the world's classifieds in 2026

A small number of groups own most of the world's big classifieds sites. Some are listed on stock exchanges and publish full results. Others belong to private equity firms, state-linked investors or founders and publish little. Ownership changed a lot in 2024-2026, so a site's owner is often different from what an older list of the top classified websites would tell you (see our earlier roundup of the top classified websites in the world).

Adevinta was the largest group after it bought eBay's classifieds business. That 2020 deal (closed in 2021) gave eBay US$2.5 billion in cash and about 44% of Adevinta, and moved Kleinanzeigen, mobile.de, Marktplaats, Kijiji, Gumtree and others to Adevinta44. eBay has had no general classifieds business since. A consortium led by Permira and Blackstone completed its takeover of Adevinta on 29 May 20241. Since then the owners have sold parts: Ireland's Distilled (DoneDeal, Daft.ie) to a Dublin fund in November 202445, the willhaben stake in Austria went to Styria and Sprints in March 202546, and the Spanish business (InfoJobs, Fotocasa, coches.net and others) went to EQT in a deal agreed in July 2025, at a reported enterprise value of about €2 billion, that closed in February 20262. What is left is mainly Germany, France and Benelux (leboncoin, Kleinanzeigen, mobile.de, Marktplaats, 2dehands), plus Subito in Italy and Kijiji in Canada. Analysts have valued mobile.de alone at about 42% of Adevinta's break-up value, and Vend (then Schibsted) still held about 14% of the group in early 202519.

Vend is the new name of Schibsted's marketplaces business. Schibsted sold its news media to the Tinius Trust in 2024, and the listed marketplaces company was renamed Vend Marketplaces in 2025. It owns FINN, Blocket, Tori, DBA and Bilbasen in the Nordics47. It also holds about 14% of Adevinta48.

OLX Group (Prosus) now reports OLX as one line inside Prosus's European business. It has exited OLX Autos (the last unit was sold in August 2025) and disposed of its Chile, Colombia and Mexico sites, and bought France's La Centrale for about €1.1 billion7. Prosus is also the largest shareholder of Dubizzle Group (dubizzle, Bayut and others in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East), which planned a Dubai listing for November 2025 and then postponed it49.

Naver, the Korean search company, has become a classifieds owner in the West. It bought Poshmark for US$1.2 billion in a deal that closed in January 202350, and in August 2025 agreed to buy the 70.5% of Spain's Wallapop it did not own for €377 million21.

Avito, Russia's leader, was sold by Naspers to Kismet Capital in 2022. In April 2025 a structure linked to the state agricultural bank Rosselkhozbank took 50%51.

KKR and CPP Investments took control of Axel Springer's classifieds (StepStone, AVIV with SeLoger, Immowelt and Immoweb) in a €10 billion split agreed in 2024, with Axel Springer keeping a minority stake52. In December 2025 they agreed to sell Israel's Yad2 to Apax for a reported US$950 million18.

The listed vertical specialists, Scout24, Rightmove, Auto Trader, REA Group, CarGurus and Cars.com, earn their money from professional advertisers (agents and dealers). Their growth now comes more from price than volume. REA's Australian revenue rose 11% in the year to June 2026 while its international revenue fell 38%, and it agreed to sell India's Housing.com23. Scout24 grew 14.7% in 2025, or 11% without acquisitions30. In the US car market the gap is wide: Cars.com grew 1% in 202553, while CarGurus grew 14%54.

CoStar is the newest big spender. It bought Australia's Domain for about US$1.9 billion and plans to move it, and the UK's OnTheMarket, onto Homes.com software. Homes.com has more than 31,000 paying agents, and CoStar says its network averaged 108 million monthly unique visitors in 2025, behind Zillow's reported 235 million20.

In Asia, Mercari (Japan), Karrot (Korea) and Carousell (Southeast Asia) are app-first. Carousell runs Carousell, Chợ Tốt, Mudah.my and OneShift, and is backed by Telenor, Naver and Rakuten Ventures, among others27. In Africa, Jiji took over OLX's sites in five countries in 2019 and bought Bangladesh's Bikroy in May 202624. Craigslist stays private and publishes nothing; the AIM Group estimates its revenue42. Mercado Libre runs classifieds for vehicles, property and services across Latin America, charging only listing fees, but does not report their revenue separately55. Facebook Marketplace has no separate revenue line inside Meta.

Western Europe and the Nordics

Western Europe still runs on a few big groups. In most countries the leading general classifieds site belongs to Adevinta, Vend, or a national media group. Adevinta owns Leboncoin (France), Kleinanzeigen and mobile.de (Germany), Marktplaats (Netherlands), 2dehands/2ememain (Belgium) and Subito (Italy). Its marketplaces draw more than 120 million users a month, it says56. Blackstone and Permira took the company off the stock market in 202445. Vend Marketplaces, the Oslo-listed company formerly called Schibsted, still holds 14%48.

Since the buyout, the new owners have been splitting Adevinta up. Ireland went to a Dublin fund in late 202445. The Austrian stake was sold in March 202557. The whole Spanish business went to EQT, a deal signed in July 202558 and closed in February 202648. In the Nordics, Schibsted's marketplaces took the name Vend in the second quarter of 202559. Vend keeps FINN, Blocket, DBA, Bilbasen, Tori and Oikotie as local brands.

Two new forces put pressure on all of them. Vinted, the Lithuanian second-hand app, made about €1.1 billion in revenue in 2025 and now sells far more than clothes (more below)13. Payments and shipping are the other change. Kleinanzeigen, Marktplaats, Subito, Wallapop and Tori now hold the buyer's money until the item arrives, and they earn a fee on that service. Facebook Marketplace competes in every country here, but Meta publishes no country figures, so it appears in the table only where it is the clear rival.

United Kingdom

The UK is the one big market where the general site is weak and the vertical sites are strong. Rightmove made £425.1 million in revenue in 2025, 9% more than in 2024. It had 19,272 agency and new-homes advertisers. By Comscore's measure it took 89% of the time people spent on UK property portals in December 20254. Zoopla, and OnTheMarket (bought by CoStar in late 2023), are far behind60. Auto Trader made £624.3 million in the year to March 202631. In the year before, it had 81.6 million cross-platform visits a month. It says more than 75% of the minutes spent on UK car marketplaces were spent on its sites. Private sellers pay to list a car there, and that line brought in £26.6 million61.

Gumtree has changed owners quietly. Adevinta sold it to O3 Industries and Novum Capital in 2021. In September 2024 those two sold it on to Ocean Link, an Asian private equity firm, and its portfolio company 58.com, a big Chinese classifieds group. Gumtree never announced the deal62. Gumtree is still first among UK sites Similarweb files as "classifieds". But it ranked only #114 among all UK websites in September 2026, against #24 for vinted.co.uk (Similarweb estimates)63,64. A newcomer should know that UK buyers go to a specialist site for cars, homes and clothes. The general board is a smaller prize than it was. See our earlier UK classifieds list.

How it started: How Gumtree got its first sellers, from our Marketplace teardowns series.

Ireland

Ireland has one local group. Distilled owns DoneDeal (cars and general goods), Daft.ie (property) and Adverts.ie. In November 2024 Blacksheep Fund Management, a Dublin fund that invests charity assets, bought Adevinta's controlling stake. The founders, who held about half, kept running it. Distilled had €41.4 million of turnover and €12.2 million of pre-tax profit in 202345. In September 2026 Daft.ie ranked #13 among Irish websites and DoneDeal #15 (Similarweb estimates)65,66. Ireland is now one of the few countries where the leading general, car and property sites are all owned locally. More: best classifieds websites in Ireland.

France

Leboncoin is the default place to sell almost anything in France. In spring 2026 it recorded more than 100 million monthly visits across web and app (certified data). Its last published revenue was €550 million, for 202310. It ranks #1 among French classifieds sites on Similarweb67. About 133 million items changed hands on it in 2023. Since then it has added AI-written ad descriptions, price suggestions and image search, and in December 2024 it said PayPal would join Apple Pay in its secure payment in early 202528.

Inside the company, times are harder. Chief executive Antoine Jouteau left at the end of 2025, and staff voted for a strike that took place in March 202610. Vinted, not Leboncoin, now owns second-hand fashion: vinted.fr ranks #1 in French fashion sites68. SeLoger leads property and La Centrale leads cars69,70. See also our French top 10.

How it started: How Leboncoin got its first sellers, from our Marketplace teardowns series.

Germany and Austria

Kleinanzeigen, called eBay Kleinanzeigen until its rename, is Germany's general marketplace. Private sellers still list for free and pay no commission. The money comes from paid promotion, business sellers, advertising, and a buyer-protection fee on its "Sicher bezahlen" (pay safely) service. Germany's consumer centers counted more than 55 million live listings when they tested the app, and named fraud as its biggest problem71. In March 2026 Kleinanzeigen moved its payments in-house on Adyen's systems, with a shorter checkout and one-click payment72. kleinanzeigen.de ranked #10 among German websites in September 202673.

mobile.de, Germany's top car site, could be Adevinta's next exit. Reuters reported in January 2025 that Permira was considering a 2026 Frankfurt listing that could value it at about €10 billion74. In January 2026 the company said a listing was still one of the options it was studying75. ImmoScout24 leads property76. More: top classified sites in Germany.

Austria's willhaben covers goods, cars, property and jobs, with more than 13 million listings. In March 2025 Adevinta sold its 50% to Styria Media Group, its long-time partner, which brought in the investor Sprints as co-owner57. Bloomberg reported a valuation of about €500 million77. willhaben ranked #7 among Austrian websites78.

Switzerland

Swiss classifieds are mostly in one listed company. SMG Swiss Marketplace Group owns tutti.ch, anibis.ch and Ricardo (general goods and auctions), AutoScout24 Switzerland, and Homegate, ImmoScout24 and Flatfox (property). TX Group, Ringier, Mobiliar and General Atlantic set it up as a joint venture in 2021. It listed on the SIX exchange on 19 September 2025 at CHF 46 a share, a value of about CHF 4.5 billion79. tutti.ch ranks #1 among Swiss classifieds sites80. AutoScout24 leads cars81. Jobs belong to jobs.ch, outside SMG82. With three general brands under one owner, a newcomer faces one well-funded rival.

Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg

Adevinta's Marktplaats is the Dutch general site, and 2dehands (Dutch) and 2ememain (French) are its Belgian sister sites. Marktplaats charges no sales commission in most categories. It earns from paid listings and top ads83. Its "Direct kopen" (buy now) option makes buyer protection compulsory, at a fee of about 5% in one example. Sellers ship with DHL or PostNL, and Marktplaats holds the money until the buyer approves84. marktplaats.nl ranked #13 among Dutch websites in September 2026, and its traffic fell 12% from the month before (Similarweb estimate)85. Funda leads Dutch property86. 2dehands.be leads Belgian classifieds and Immoweb leads property87,88. Vinted Go, Vinted's parcel network, already runs in Belgium and the Netherlands13. We found no leading local site in Luxembourg. More: top classifieds in the Netherlands.

Spain

Spain changed the most. EQT agreed in July 2025 to buy Adevinta Spain: Milanuncios, Fotocasa, Habitaclia, InfoJobs, coches.net and motos.net89. Reports put the deal at about €2 billion90. Scout24 then agreed to buy Fotocasa and Habitaclia from EQT for €153 million91. The EQT deal closed in February 2026, and Adevinta planned to pay its owners €2 billion out of it48.

Wallapop, the app-first rival, now belongs to Naver, South Korea's main internet portal. Naver bought the 70.5% it did not already own, valuing Wallapop at about €600 million. The deal closed in early 2026 over the objection of the investor 14W. Wallapop had 2024 revenue of about €101 million and says it has more than 21 million monthly users in Spain, Italy and Portugal22. Listing is still free. Wallapop earns from shipping and a buyer protection fee, and Spanish tech press expects more fees under Naver92. Milanuncios is still #1 among Spanish classifieds sites, and Idealista leads property93,94.

How it started: How Wallapop got its first sellers, from our Marketplace teardowns series.

Portugal

OLX Group (Prosus) runs OLX, Standvirtual (cars) and Imovirtual (property) in Portugal; Imovirtual joined the group in 201695. olx.pt ranked #18 among Portuguese websites in September 2026. Custojusto, the older local rival, was far behind at #16096,97. In property, Idealista's Portuguese site (#11) has passed Imovirtual (#74)98,99. Wallapop and Vinted Go both now reach Portugal13. More: top 3 classifieds sites in Portugal.

Italy

Subito is Italy's general marketplace and ranks #1 among Italian classifieds sites100. Adevinta has kept it, naming it among its core brands after the Spanish sale58. Its TuttoSubito service holds the buyer's payment until the item arrives. Payouts are a weak spot: on consumer group Altroconsumo's complaints board, a seller of an €850 drone said in September 2025 that they were still unpaid ten days after the buyer confirmed receipt101. Immobiliare.it leads property and AutoScout24 leads cars102,103. Wallapop also counts Italy among its markets. More: top classifieds sites in Italy.

Greece

Greece has no foreign-owned giant. car.gr ranked #9 among all Greek websites in September 2026 and first among vehicle sites104. xe.gr, the online heir to a printed classifieds paper, ranked #57105. Spitogatos leads property106. Vinted planned to open in Greece in 2025107. We could not confirm who owns car.gr and xe.gr today.

Sweden, Norway and Denmark

Vend's sites lead the general and car categories in all three countries. finn.no ranked #4 among Norwegian websites, blocket.se #8 in Sweden and dba.dk #12 in Denmark. Each was first in its country's classifieds category (Similarweb estimates)108,109,110. Vend's 2025 revenue was NOK 6,317 million, down 1%, while EBITDA (profit before interest, tax and depreciation) rose 30%. In November 2025 it moved Blocket onto its shared "Aurora" platform3. Users and car dealers complained of missing filters and wrong vehicle data. Blocket said it would fix problems but would not bring back the old site111.

In July 2026 Klarna began adding its payment methods to Blocket, FINN, Tori and DBA through Adyen112. In January 2026 Norway's competition authority searched the offices of Nettbil, a car-selling service in the Vend group, but not FINN113. Not everything belongs to Vend. Sweden's top property site is Hemnet and Denmark's is Boligsiden114,115. Bilbasen leads Danish cars116.

How it started: How Blocket got its first sellers, from our Marketplace teardowns series.

Finland and Iceland

Tori ranked #7 among Finnish websites. Vend's Oikotie and the independent Etuovi are the next two in the classifieds category117,118,119. Tori's ToriDiili service adds payment and shipping, and buyers get 24 hours to check an item before the seller is paid120. Nettiauto leads cars121. More: top classified websites in Finland. Iceland is too small for the big groups. Bland.is ranked #31 among Icelandic websites122.

Vinted across the region

Vinted is the one company that competes with the general classifieds sites in nearly every country here. Its 2025 results are covered in "Ten things" above: €10.8 billion of goods sold, up 47%, with profit down as it spent on Germany, its Vinted Pay wallet and new categories13. It now lists homewares, toys, electronics and books next to clothes. A share sale in April 2026 valued it at €8 billion107. Its reach is uneven. vinted.co.uk ranked #24 among UK websites and vinted.fr #20 in France, but vinted.de only #97 in Germany, where Kleinanzeigen is stronger (Similarweb estimates)123. Its parcel network, Vinted Go, runs in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain, and it has started testing that network with outside clients13.

How it started: How Vinted got its first sellers, from our Marketplace teardowns series.

Regulation: the DSA and seller reporting

The EU's Digital Services Act and its DAC7 seller-reporting rules (see "Ten things", point 9) apply in every EU country here. The UK has its own matching rules: sellers of goods are left out only if they make fewer than 30 sales and receive €2,000 (about £1,700) or less in a year124. Payment and shipping services make sellers easy to count, so heavy private sellers now show up in these reports. That pushes some of them to register as businesses and pay for pro accounts.

Gaps

  • UK general goods: Gumtree is now owned by a private equity fund and a Chinese group, and Vinted gets far more UK traffic, which leaves room for a modern local general marketplace63.
  • Swedish cars and general goods: dealers and users publicly criticized Blocket after its forced move to Vend's new platform in late 2025111.
  • Spain after the sale: Milanuncios now belongs to EQT and Wallapop to Naver. New owners often raise fees, and the press expects Wallapop's fees to rise92.
  • Portugal general goods: Custojusto, the only local alternative to OLX, ranks far down the Portuguese web97.
  • Trust in Germany: consumer centers call fraud and hacked accounts a "massive" problem on Kleinanzeigen, so a smaller site with verified sellers has an argument71.
  • Seller payouts in Italy: Subito sellers complain publicly about late TuttoSubito payouts101.
  • Iceland and Luxembourg: neither has a strong local general marketplace. Bland.is ranks only #31 in Iceland, and we found no leading site in Luxembourg122.

Eastern Europe, Russia, Turkey and Central Asia

This region has two kinds of leaders. In Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine, the leader is OLX, which is owned by the Dutch-listed investor Prosus (part of South Africa's Naspers). Almost everywhere else, the leader is a local company. Examples are Avito in Russia, Sahibinden in Turkey, Bazoš in the Czech Republic, Njuškalo in Croatia, KupujemProdajem in Serbia and Kolesa in Kazakhstan. Western groups have mostly pulled back. Naspers sold Avito in 2022, and Adevinta sold its Hungarian sites to a local buyer in 2023125.

OLX made the biggest moves in 2025-2026. It shrank its map and grew its profits. In August 2025 it agreed to sell OLX Uzbekistan to a joint venture led by Georgia's TBC Bank Group126. In October 2025 it agreed to sell OLX Kazakhstan to VEON's Beeline for $75 million127. By November 2025, OLX listed only seven markets: Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Portugal, France, South Africa and Ukraine128. In the year to March 2026, OLX revenue rose 28% to $992 million. Adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) was $481 million7. Part of that growth came from buying the French car site La Centrale, so underlying growth was about 16%.

The other big stories were in Russia and Turkey. A company linked to the state-owned Rosselkhozbank bought half of Avito in April 202551. In June 2026, Avito said it had decided to go public one day, but it has set no date16. In Turkey, the competition authority spent 2025 investigating Sahibinden's car auction service, Otobid. It closed the case in January 2026 after Sahibinden agreed to limits129. Facebook Marketplace competes for second-hand goods in most of these countries. We name it only where it matters for a row.

Poland

Poland is OLX's largest market in this region. OLX.pl ranked eighth among all websites in Poland in September 2026, according to Similarweb's estimate153. The group also owns the country's leading car site, Otomoto, and its property portal, Otodom. Its results name Poland as a key market for blue-collar and grey-collar jobs, meaning manual and skilled trade work154.

OLX in Poland is not fully free. It made Home and Garden and then Electronics partly paid. In 2019 it began charging for every ad in Services, at about 14 to 20 złoty per ad155. Most private sellers now get a free allowance per category and pay after that. Cars and property are paid categories.

In October 2025 OLX agreed to sell Fixly, its Polish platform for booking local services128. The main local rival for used goods is Allegro Lokalnie, the classifieds arm of the e-commerce leader Allegro. We found no separate traffic or revenue figures for Lokalnie, so its size against OLX is not public.

How it started: How OLX got its first sellers, from our Marketplace teardowns series.

Czech Republic and Slovakia

Bazoš is the most visited classifieds site in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It is an independent business owned by Radim Smička. In 2018 it had more than 700,000 users a day across its language versions and added more than 100,000 ads a day. It also launched in Poland that year156. Semrush estimated 25.7 million visits to bazos.cz in September 2026. Its estimates for rivals were 7.3 million for the auction site Aukro and 3.6 million for Sbazar, which belongs to the Czech search company Seznam157. So Sbazar has about a seventh of Bazoš's traffic, even though Seznam runs one of the country's biggest web portals.

The lesson for a newcomer is that a large portal and a strong brand were not enough here. Seznam has both, and its classifieds site still trails an independent one by a wide margin.

Hungary

Hungary's main sites came back into Hungarian hands in 2023. Adevinta sold Jófogás (general), Használtautó.hu (cars) and Autónavigátor to Ingatlan.com, the leading property portal125. The buyers were the founders of Ingatlan.com and of the electronics retailer Extreme Digital. A state-backed, low-interest loan program helped pay for the deal158. As a result, one domestic group now holds the top general, car and property sites. A newcomer would face a single owner across all three main categories.

Romania and Bulgaria

OLX leads in Romania with three brands: OLX.ro for general ads and jobs, Autovit.ro for cars and Storia for property. OLX said it hosted more than 560,000 active job ads in Romania in 2024, with 6.7 million applications. It also said listings on Autovit passed €1.2 billion in total value. More than 190 people work for these brands in Romania159. OLX.ro ranked eighth among Romanian websites in September 2026, according to Similarweb's estimate160. In August 2025, OLX completed the sale of Kiwi Finance, a Romanian mortgage broker it had owned128.

Bulgaria is still one of OLX's seven markets, and OLX.bg is its general site there. We found no 2025-2026 news of a sale or a change in that business.

Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Bosnia

The former Yugoslav countries each have a strong local leader. In Croatia, Njuškalo covers general goods, cars and property on one site. It belongs to the Austrian media group Styria through Styria Digital Marketplaces. Croatian registry data shows Njuškalo's revenue at about €17.8 million in 2025, up from €15.4 million. Net profit fell to €1.3 million from €1.9 million, and staff grew to 118161. Njuškalo ranked tenth among Croatian websites in September 2026, according to Similarweb162.

In Slovenia, Bolha.com is the best-known general site. Its app is published by Styria Digital Marketplaces, the owner of Njuškalo140. We could not confirm its traffic from a source dated 2024 or later.

In Serbia, KupujemProdajem started in 2008 as a gadget news site and became a free classifieds site. It had more than 5.5 million active listings in August 2023163. It ranked fifth among all Serbian websites in September 2026, according to Similarweb164. That is a high rank for a classifieds site in any country. In Bosnia, OLX.ba is a separate local business that is not part of Prosus's OLX Group. We could not verify its current owner.

The Baltics

Most Baltic leaders belong to one company, Baltic Classifieds Group (BCG), which is listed in London. Its brands include Autoplius.lt, Aruodas.lt, Skelbiu.lt and CVbankas.lt in Lithuania, and Auto24.ee, KV.ee, City24.ee, Osta.ee and KuldneBörs.ee in Estonia. In the year to April 2026, BCG's revenue rose 7% to €88.5 million, with an EBITDA margin of 78%5. Few classifieds companies anywhere earn margins that high. Property revenue grew 17%, but revenue from private sellers grew just 1%. BCG raised its prices for private sellers in March 2026. Traffic was flat at 57 million visits a month, and BCG said visits from AI search were still negligible.

Latvia is the exception. Its best-known general site, SS.com, is not among BCG's brands. BCG's Latvian presence is mainly property (City24.lv) and services. In June 2026 it bought Cenubanka.lv, a Latvian property data site.

Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus

The war cut OLX Ukraine's audience at first, but the business has since grown sharply. Figures from the operating company, EMARKET UKRAINE, show revenue rising from about 1.18 billion hryvnia in 2022 to 3.5 billion in 2025. Net profit rose from 120 million to 994 million hryvnia over the same years165. OLX says that in 2025 its active users in Ukraine were back to 92% of the 2021 level, and active sellers were at 99%. It has more than 150 staff in the country and says it is among Ukraine's top 100 taxpayers166.

In May 2026 OLX launched Otodim, a separate property search site for Ukraine. It uses AI to tidy up property listings that come from OLX166. It was still a beta in June 2026, and some listings appear on both OLX and Otodim167. OLX had a similar plan once before: in 2016 it prepared to bring its Polish property brand Otodom to Ukraine168. OLX.ua ranked fifth among Ukrainian websites in September 2026, according to Similarweb169. In Moldova, 999.md, run by the local company Simpals, is the leading general site144. In Belarus, Kufar leads, and its local team bought it from Adevinta in 2022149. We found no 2025-2026 news on either business.

Russia

Avito is Russia's largest classifieds site and one of its biggest internet companies. Naspers sold it in 2022 to Kismet Capital Group, run by Ivan Tavrin, for 151 billion rubles (about $2.4 billion at the time). In 2023, the last year with widely reported figures, Avito earned 101 billion rubles in revenue and 39 billion in net profit. In April 2025 a company managed by the state-owned Rosselkhozbank bought 50% of the business. The price was not disclosed. Tavrin and Kismet are under US sanctions51.

At the St. Petersburg forum in June 2026, managing partner Sergey Piven said Avito has about 72 million monthly clients and has tripled in size over three years. He said the company has decided it should be public. But he added that it will list only when it is ready, valuations improve and Russia's stock market is deep enough. He also said the offering Avito has in mind is far larger than all Russian IPOs in 2025 combined16. Avito ranked eighth among Russian websites in September 2026, according to Similarweb170.

In property, Avito competes with Cian. In 2021 Russia's competition authority blocked Avito from buying Cian. The combined company would have held an estimated 62% share, and the regulator expected prices to rise171. VK's Yula is a distant number two in general classifieds. A 2023 analysis put Yula at about 17 million visits a month, against about 366 million for Avito172.

How it started: How Avito won Russia, from our Marketplace teardowns series.

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

Kazakhstan's leader is Kolesa Group, which runs Kolesa.kz (cars), Krisha.kz (property) and Market.kz (general goods). The fintech and e-commerce company Kaspi.kz took control of it in 2023, buying about 40% of the shares and 51% of the votes for about $88.5 million173. Kolesa's 2024 revenue was 71.5 billion tenge, up 13.7%, with net profit above 17 billion tenge. Most of that revenue now comes from selling cars itself, not from ads. Car loan services more than doubled174. OLX.kz is the number two general site by traffic. Beeline, a mobile operator, agreed to buy it for $75 million in October 2025, subject to regulatory approval; we found no announcement that the deal had closed by November 2026127.

In Uzbekistan, OLX.uz has 5.4 million monthly active users and 2.2 million active listings. It is the country's sixth-most-visited website. A joint venture led by TBC Bank Group, with Titan Investments, agreed to buy all of it in August 2025126. So in both countries the main classifieds site is now in the hands of a bank or a telecom company, not a classifieds specialist.

Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan

Georgia's market is split across specialist sites rather than one general leader. Mymarket and SS.ge serve general goods, Myhome serves property, Myauto serves cars and Jobs.ge serves jobs175. In 2019 TBC Bank Group bought 65% of My.ge, which it called Georgia's leading classifieds company. My.ge runs car, car parts, consumer and housing marketplaces176. The sites above whose names start with "My" are probably part of that group, but we found no recent source that confirms it. With OLX Uzbekistan, TBC is becoming a regional classifieds owner.

In Armenia, List.am covers everything from flats to jobs. It ranked fourth among all Armenian websites in September 2026, according to Similarweb177.

In Azerbaijan, one company called Digital Classifieds owns Tap.az (general), Turbo.az (cars), Bina.az (property) and Boss.az (jobs). Sellers get one free ad for 30 days. Extra ads, renewals and top placement cost money. A local report names Mikhail Lomtadze, who is linked to Kaspi.kz, as one of the main shareholders178. If that is right, the same investor group sits behind the leaders in both Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

Turkey

Sahibinden.com is Turkey's dominant classifieds site, especially for cars and property. Taner Aksoy founded it in 2000, and it is owned by Aksoy Group179. It ranked fourth among all Turkish websites in September 2026, according to Similarweb180.

Its size has drawn regulators. In 2023 the competition board fined it about TL 40 million (about $1.5 million). The board found it dominant in car and property listings and said it had locked some business clients into exclusive contracts. It had to let dealers and agents move their listings to other portals at no cost181. In January 2025 the board opened a second case over Otobid, Sahibinden's car auction service. It ordered interim measures the same day. The concern was that Sahibinden used its listing data and home page to push sellers toward Otobid182. The case closed in January 2026 without a fine. Sahibinden agreed to remove Otobid promotions, to stop steering sellers there and to keep its user data apart. It also agreed that Otobid's revenue must cover its costs once it reaches a set size129.

Rivals are smaller. Letgo, the second-hand app, was reported in July 2023 to be going to the fleet company Hedef Filo183. In property, Doğan Holding's Hepsiemlak bought Zingat in 2023 to close the gap with Emlakjet. Property Finder took a stake in Hepsiemlak as part of that deal184.

Gaps

  • Turkish cars, after Otobid. Sahibinden can no longer use its listings or home page to push its own auction service, which leaves room for independent car-selling tools129.
  • Ukrainian property. OLX is only now piloting a separate property site, which shows the category is still open166.
  • Czech general classifieds beyond Bazoš. Seznam's Sbazar has about a seventh of Bazoš's estimated traffic, so the market has one strong leader and no strong number two157.
  • Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan under new owners. OLX.kz and OLX.uz are moving to a telecom company and a bank, and new owners often change prices and teams127.
  • Baltic private sellers. BCG's private-seller revenue grew only 1% and it raised prices in March 2026, which may push casual sellers to free alternatives5.
  • Polish local services. OLX agreed to sell Fixly, its services platform, in October 2025, so the category may lose its strongest owner128.
  • Russian general classifieds outside Avito. Yula had about 5% of Avito's visits in 2023, so Avito has no real general rival172.

North and Latin America

The Americas split into two very different classifieds markets. In the United States and Canada, general classifieds are a shrinking middle. Craigslist and Kijiji still lead the "general" category in traffic rankings, but the money and the audience have moved to large vertical sites for homes, cars and jobs. Zillow averaged 235 million monthly unique users across its apps and sites in 2025, up 6% on 20248. Craigslist, by contrast, slipped from about #144 to #161 in Similarweb's global ranking over the three months to September 202611.

Facebook Marketplace is the main rival to local classifieds in almost every country in this region, so it is not repeated in every row below. Meta does not publish Marketplace user numbers. Its biggest product change in the region was a test, started in January 2025, that shows selected eBay listings inside Marketplace in the US (plus Germany and France). Buyers who click through check out on eBay. The test followed a European Commission fine of nearly 800 million euros in November 2024 for tying Marketplace to Facebook185.

In Latin America, two kinds of owners dominate. Mercado Libre, the region's largest e-commerce company, runs classifieds for vehicles, real estate and services alongside its marketplace. For classifieds it charges sellers a placing fee only, not a commission on the sale55. Brazil's QuintoAndar bought the Navent property portals (Inmuebles24, Zonaprop, Imovelweb, Urbania, Adondevivir, Plusvalia, Compreoalquile) in a deal signed in December 2021186. Frontier Digital Ventures (FDV), an Australian-listed group, owns smaller leaders such as Yapo in Chile and Fincaraiz in Colombia.

The biggest change of the last few years was a retreat. OLX's car-buying business, OLX Autos, left Peru and Ecuador in 2022 and Argentina and Mexico in 2023, and OLX closed in Colombia in July 20236. Prosus has since disposed of OLX in Chile too, so Brazil, through the OLX Brasil joint venture, is now OLX's only Latin American market7. Adevinta also sold out of Mexico and Chile. In much of Spanish-speaking Latin America, general classifieds are now a contest between Facebook Marketplace and Mercado Libre, with property portals carrying most of the paid listings.

United States

Craigslist is still the reference general classifieds site in the US. Similarweb ranks it #1 in US classifieds, with about 96 million visits over the three months to September 2026 and 94% of traffic from the US. The same page shows traffic down about 11% on the previous month11. Craigslist is privately owned and publishes no accounts, so revenue figures are third-party estimates. AIM Group, a classifieds consultancy, counts ads by hand in sample markets to build its estimate208.

Its model is unusual: most posts are free and there is no subscription. Craigslist charges per post in a few categories. Jobs cost $10 to $75 depending on the city; cars, RVs and motorcycles sold by owner cost $5 in the US; dealer, services and commercial real estate posts cost $5; and apartment rentals cost $5 in Boston, Chicago and New York209.

OfferUp, which absorbed rival app letgo in 2020, is the main app-first challenger. It laid off 22% of its staff in December 2024, as it shifted from a marketplace for used items toward broader local classifieds210. Further cuts were reported in October 2025. Nextdoor relaunched its app in July 2025 around news, alerts and local recommendations. It had 46.1 million weekly active users in the first quarter of 2025 by its older, broader measure211. See also our top classified websites in the USA.

What a newcomer should know: the free local market belongs to Facebook Marketplace, and Craigslist's audience is drifting down. Openings tend to be in niches where trust, specialist filters or payments matter more than raw reach.

How it started: How Craigslist got its first listings, from our Marketplace teardowns series.

US verticals: property, cars and jobs

Property is the most valuable classifieds vertical in the Americas, and it is now a three-way fight. Zillow reported 2025 revenue of $2.58 billion, up 16%, and 221 million average monthly unique users in the fourth quarter (235 million averaged over the year)212. CoStar's Homes.com, which charges agents rather than selling buyer leads, reported 111 million average monthly unique visitors for its network in the second quarter of 2025. CoStar planned to grow the Homes.com sales team from 230 to about 750 people during 2025213. Mortgage lender Rocket Companies completed its purchase of Redfin on July 1, 2025, and now offers rate discounts to buyers who use both Rocket Mortgage and a Redfin agent214. Similarweb ranks zillow.com #1 in US real estate, at about 318 million visits over the three months to September 2026215. See also our top US real estate sites.

In cars, Cars.com reported third-quarter 2025 revenue of $181.6 million, 156.2 million visits, 25.5 million average monthly unique visitors and 19,526 dealer customers216. CarGurus announced with its second-quarter 2025 results that it would wind down CarOffer, its dealer-to-dealer trading business, to focus on the marketplace217.

In jobs, Indeed's owner Recruit Holdings cut about 1,300 jobs in July 2025, around 6% of its HR technology unit, and folded Glassdoor into Indeed218.

Canada

Kijiji is Canada's leading general classifieds site. Similarweb ranks kijiji.ca #1 in Canadian classifieds, with about 14 million visits over the three months to September 2026 and 95% of traffic from Canada219. Kijiji was started by eBay and is now part of Adevinta, which a consortium led by Blackstone and Permira agreed to buy in a deal of about €14 billion announced in November 2023220. Kijiji's business site still carries the copyright of Marktplaats BV, Adevinta's Dutch unit, and calls Kijiji the most visited classifieds site in Canada, without naming a data source221.

For cars, Kijiji runs a separate site, Kijiji Autos, which competes with AutoTrader.ca. Craigslist is a minor player in Canada: about 4% of craigslist.org traffic comes from Canada11, and it charges for dealer car and furniture posts in Vancouver209. See also the most popular classifieds websites in Canada.

What a newcomer should know: Kijiji is owned by private equity, and Facebook Marketplace is its main rival for everyday items. Regional and French-language niches in Quebec are worth a closer look.

How it started: How Kijiji beat Craigslist in Canada, from our Marketplace teardowns series.

Mexico

Mexico lost its main general classifieds brands in quick succession. Adevinta sold Segundamano and Vivanuncios to Navent in September 2022. By then Vivanuncios was mostly property listings. Lamudi's chief executive called the deal "very bad news for the competitiveness of the real estate industry in Mexico"222. In March 2023 Navent shut Segundamano, citing a lack of relevance, and Lifull Connect bought Lamudi Mexico223.

Property is now led by QuintoAndar's Inmuebles24, which Similarweb ranks #1 in Mexican real estate. It had about 8 million visits over the three months to September 2026, down 11% in the last month, with 11% of traffic coming from the US224. Lamudi described itself to agents in 2022 as the only independent portal left in the market225. For everyday goods and cars, Mexicans mostly use Facebook Marketplace and Mercado Libre, which charges a placing fee for vehicle and property classifieds55. OLX Autos stopped operating in Mexico in 20236. See also top classified sites in Mexico.

What a newcomer should know: no local brand leads general classifieds. Property is close to a single-owner market, which leaves room for portals agents see as independent.

Central America

Encuentra24 is the regional leader. In July 2020 OLX Group merged its businesses in Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Guatemala into Encuentra24, adding US$1 million in cash, in exchange for a 37.5% stake. In Guatemala the OLX site was relaunched under the Encuentra24 brand226. Similarweb counts about 2.5 million visits over the three months to September 2026, with Panama (31%), Costa Rica (26%), Nicaragua and El Salvador as the main sources. It ranks the site #2 in Panama's classifieds category227. QuintoAndar's Compreoalquile is the property portal in Panama186.

What a newcomer should know: Encuentra24 spreads one site across several small markets. Honduras and Nicaragua look thinly served by dedicated local sites, but we found no dated data to confirm it.

Cuba

Revolico has been Cuba's best-known classifieds site for more than a decade. It is legally based in Spain and was blocked inside Cuba for several years. Cubans reached it through proxies and through the "Paquete Semanal", a weekly offline bundle of digital content passed around on USB drives. A 2018 report found more than half a million Revolico ads in 60 days. It also noted that classifieds sites have no specific legal status in Cuba, that basic posting was free, and that sites earned money from featured ads, auto-renewal and advertising228.

Traffic tools barely see this market. Similarweb counts only about 191,000 visits to revolico.com over the three months to September 2026, with the US listed as the top country229. This most likely reflects measurement gaps and app or offline use rather than the site's real reach. We found no dated 2024 to 2026 source on Revolico's business, so treat its current size as unknown.

Dominican Republic

Corotos is the leading Dominican classifieds site. Schibsted, the Norwegian group, founded it in 2011. In 2017 it reported about 5.4 million monthly visits and said it was free to use, with buyers and sellers completing deals in person230. Similarweb still ranks corotos.com.do #1 in Dominican classifieds, but counts only about 285,000 visits over the three months to September 2026, or under 100,000 a month231. The two numbers come from different methods, but the gap points to a large loss of web traffic to Facebook Marketplace and apps. We could not confirm who owns Corotos today. See also the classified sites making it big in the Dominican Republic.

Puerto Rico

Clasificados Online is the island's main general site for cars, homes and jobs. Similarweb ranks clasificadosonline.com #13 among all sites in Puerto Rico, with about 1.8 million visits over the three months to September 2026. Almost a quarter of its traffic comes from the US mainland, which reflects the diaspora buying and renting back home232. It should not be confused with Clasificados PR, the classifieds brand of GFR Media, publisher of El Nuevo Día. We could not confirm who owns Clasificados Online. What a newcomer should know: one site dominates a small island market, and Facebook Marketplace is the obvious rival for everyday goods.

Colombia

OLX closed in Colombia on July 14, 2023. It had focused on buying and reselling cars and faced TuCarro (owned by Mercado Libre), CarroYa (Grupo Aval) and Kavak6. Tucarro is now the top vehicle site in Similarweb's Colombian ranking, with about 3.9 million visits over the three months to September 2026233.

Property is a two-horse race. Using Similarweb data, La República reported about 3.7 million visits to Metrocuadrado and 3 million to Fincaraiz in September 2025, with Grupo Bolívar's Ciencuadras far behind at about 807,000. Fincaraiz ranked first in the category overall and was the most downloaded property app234. Fincaraiz belongs to Frontier Digital Ventures235. Properati, once a regional portal, drew only about 288,000 visits in Colombia that month234.

What a newcomer should know: with OLX gone, no local brand leads general second-hand goods.

Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela and the smaller Andean and Southern Cone markets

OLX Autos left Peru and Ecuador in August 20226. Property in both countries is led by QuintoAndar-owned portals: Urbania and Adondevivir in Peru, and Plusvalia in Ecuador186. Mercado Libre says its classifieds compete with regional and local general and vertical sites, and it plans to expand in vehicles, real estate and services55.

For Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia we found only traffic rankings, not reporting on the sites themselves. Those rankings put Mercado Libre first among general sites in Venezuela and Uruguay, and show no clear general leader in Paraguay or Bolivia191,201. These markets need fresh, local research.

Chile

OLX no longer operates in Chile (see above)7. Yapo, the general classifieds site, was sold by Adevinta to Frontier Digital Ventures in February 2021236. Similarweb ranks yapo.cl #2 in Chilean classifieds, at about 2 million visits over the three months to September 2026237.

Cars are led by Chileautos. Similarweb ranks it #1 among Chilean vehicle sites, with about 4.4 million visits over the three months to September 2026, more than twice Yapo's total238. Mercado Libre also runs car and property classifieds in Chile on placing fees55.

What a newcomer should know: Chile still has a local general site with real traffic, but at about 2 million visits in three months Yapo is small next to Facebook Marketplace and Mercado Libre.

Argentina

Mercado Libre was founded in Buenos Aires and leads general buying and selling in Argentina, with classifieds for cars and homes. OLX Autos stopped taking new business in Argentina in 20236. In property, QuintoAndar's Zonaprop is the top real estate site in Similarweb's Argentine ranking, at about 10.8 million visits over the three months to September 2026239. Navent kept its Bumeran job site when it sold the property portals186.

Brazil

Brazil is the largest classifieds market in Latin America and the only one where OLX is still a mass-market brand. OLX Brasil is a 50/50 joint venture of Adevinta and Prosus. It bought Grupo ZAP (ZAP Imóveis and Viva Real) for R$2.9 billion in 2020240. Similarweb puts olx.com.br at about 77 million visits over the three months to September 2026, with 98% of traffic from Brazil12.

Cars are led by Webmotors. In March 2023 Santander sold 40% of it to carsales for R$1.24 billion, valuing the company at R$3.1 billion and lifting carsales' stake to 70%. Santander kept the exclusive right to offer financing and insurance on the site241. Similarweb ranks webmotors.com.br #1 among Brazilian vehicle sites, at about 26.6 million visits over the three months to September 2026242. Mercado Libre competes in cars and property with placing fees55, and QuintoAndar runs Imovelweb in property186.

What a newcomer should know: Brazil's big verticals are owned by deep-pocketed groups. Openings are in regional cities and specialist categories.

Gaps

  • General classifieds in Mexico. Navent shut Segundamano in 2023, saying it was no longer relevant, after it lost 31% of its visits, leaving no local general brand next to Facebook Marketplace and Mercado Libre223.
  • General classifieds in Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. OLX left all three in 2022 to 2023, and no local general site has taken its place in the rankings we found6.
  • Local person-to-person selling in the US. Craigslist's revenue is about 70% below its 2018 peak42, its global Similarweb rank dropped 17 places in the three months to September 202611, and OfferUp laid off 22% of its staff in December 2024210.
  • Independent property portals in Mexico. Property listings sit with a few big portals led by QuintoAndar's Inmuebles24, and about 127 job cuts were reported (unconfirmed) at rival Lamudi Mexico in 2022225.
  • Dominican Republic. Corotos leads Dominican classifieds on under 100,000 visits a month (Similarweb estimate, July to September 2026), a small base that a better mobile product could challenge231.
  • Puerto Rico and its diaspora. Clasificados Online leads with about 1.8 million visits in three months, a quarter of them from the US mainland, which points to demand for cross-border listings232.
  • Small Central American markets. Encuentra24 serves several countries from one site on about 2.5 million visits in three months, and is not #1 in classifieds even in Panama, its largest market227.

Middle East and Africa

Two groups dominate this region, and neither is one of the groups that lead in Europe, although Prosus, OLX's owner, is Dubizzle Group's largest shareholder. In the Gulf and Egypt it is Dubizzle Group, a Dubai company that runs dubizzle, Bayut, Hatla2ee and DriveArabia in eight Arab countries243. Across English-speaking Africa it is Jiji, a Lagos-born marketplace backed by the Ukrainian tech group Genesis, which took over OLX's sites in five African countries in 201924. Around them sit strong local independents: Haraj in Saudi Arabia, OpenSooq in Jordan and Iraq, Divar in Iran, Ouedkniss in Algeria and 4Sale in Kuwait. Frontier Digital Ventures (FDV), an Australian-listed investor, owns the leaders in Morocco and Tunisia244.

The big story of 2025 was money that did not change hands. Dubizzle Group postponed its Dubai IPO in October 2025, one day before subscription was due to open245. In Iran, the Revolutionary Guards' intelligence arm blocked Divar's stock market listing in March 2025246. The deals that did close went to private equity. Permira and Blackstone put $525 million into Property Finder247, and Apax agreed to buy Israel's Yad2 from KKR for about $950 million18. In May 2026 Jiji made its first buy outside Africa, Bangladesh's Bikroy, paid for from its own cash17.

Facebook and WhatsApp matter more here than in most of the world. In a July 2024 survey across 28 African countries, 54% of social media users said they had bought or sold something on social media, and 69% in Nigeria and 65% in Kenya. Facebook (42%) and WhatsApp (41%) were the main channels248. Facebook Marketplace and seller groups compete with classifieds sites almost everywhere in the region. The tables name them only where that rivalry is the main story.

Traffic ranks below come from Similarweb's public pages for September 2026. They are estimates and count only website visits. In this region most use is on apps, so the web ranks understate the leaders.

United Arab Emirates and Dubizzle Group

Dubizzle Group says it took over OLX Group's Middle East and North Africa business in 2020243. The UAE pays the bills. In the first half of 2025 the UAE business made $105 million in adjusted revenue, 89% of the group total. Its adjusted EBITDA margin rose from 31% to 46% in a year. EBITDA is profit before interest, tax and write-downs267. The group says it has about 18 million monthly active users.

The IPO would have sold 30.34% of the company on the Dubai Financial Market, with trading due on November 6, 2025. The company gave no reason for pulling it and said only that it would pick a better time245. No relaunch had been reported in the sources reviewed for this report. It kept buying instead: DriveArabia, the data firm Property Monitor, and Egypt's Hatla2ee.

Property is a two-horse race. Property Finder, Bayut's main rival, operates in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Egypt and is targeting Saudi Arabia and Turkey247. Similarweb's September 2026 estimate ranks dubizzle.com 16th among all UAE websites and bayut.com 26th268. A newcomer will struggle against two well-funded portals in Dubai property. Smaller emirates and niche verticals are less crowded.

Saudi Arabia

Haraj is the Saudi leader, and its model is unusual. Posting is free, but the site asks sellers for a 1% commission on any sale, rental or exchange involving money. Real estate listings carry no fee. Car showrooms and property offices can buy annual memberships instead269. Haraj is private and not listed on Tadawul. No recent financial figures were found, so none are given here. Similarweb ranks haraj.com.sa 13th among Saudi websites270.

OpenSooq's chief executive says it is number two in Saudi general classifieds and plans a push into blue-collar jobs271. Dubizzle Group began investing in the kingdom around early 2024. It plans to use its UAE profits to fund the push and expects Saudi to break even in the medium term267.

Property platforms need a license. In April 2025 the Real Estate General Authority (REGA) listed 71 licensed property platforms, including Aqar and Property Finder272. Anyone starting a Saudi property site must plan for that license from day one.

Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman

The smaller Gulf states each have a different leader. In Kuwait, 4Sale was founded in 2014 by Tarek Sakr. It reports more than 2 million registered users, 14 million items listed, 197 categories and about 30 million page views a month273. Its closest web rivals are OpenSooq, dubizzle and the car site Motorgy274. In Qatar, the community portal Qatar Living ranks 27th among the country's websites. Its nearest rivals are Property Finder, Mzad Qatar, Qatar Sale and dubizzle275.

OpenSooq says it is number one in Oman and "arguably number one or two" in Kuwait271. Dubizzle and Bayut run sites in all four countries243. No independent source ranks them in Bahrain or Oman.

Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon

OpenSooq was founded in Jordan. Its chief executive says it leads in Jordan, Libya, Oman, Iraq, Palestine and Yemen, and has lost Syria and Sudan to war. The company claims over 100 million unique users a year and more than 2 billion page views a month. It has been profitable since 2019. Its mature markets run at EBITDA margins above 45%. Earnings per internet user are still tiny: about $0.05, against roughly $30 for the most successful global classifieds firms. So it is moving toward transaction fees, such as "sell it for me" for cars and property and rental management in Saudi Arabia271. Similarweb ranks opensooq.com seventh among all websites in Iraq, and first among classifieds sites there276.

Lebanon is the odd one out. Dubizzle Group's website lists eight dubizzle countries, and Lebanon is not among them, even though the group took over OLX's Middle East business in 2020243. No current source names a Lebanese leader for general goods, though OLX Lebanon still ranks first among car sites259.

Israel

Yad2 ("second hand") is Israel's dominant marketplace for property, cars and jobs. Axel Springer bought it in 2014 for about NIS 800 million. KKR took full control in March 2025 through the carve-out of Axel Springer's digital assets. In December 2025 Apax agreed to buy Yad2 for about $950 million, after KKR had asked $1.0 to 1.2 billion. Yad2 was expected to make about €83 million in revenue in 2025, with about €37 million in adjusted EBITDA. Real estate is 56% of revenue, cars 27% and jobs 15%18. A margin of about 45% shows how much a single-country leader can earn. Similarweb ranks yad2.co.il 16th among Israeli websites277.

Iran

Divar, founded in 2012, is Iran's largest classifieds app. Users post about 140 million ads a year, according to its latest published annual report. Sellers must register with a national ID and pay to post more than three ads278. US sanctions got its app removed from Google Play in 2023. In March 2025 the Tehran stock exchange cancelled a meeting on Divar's listing at the IRGC's request. Its rival Sheypoor also tried to go public, and that attempt failed too246. Sanctions keep foreign operators out, but Iran shows how big a local leader can grow when global platforms are shut out.

Egypt

OLX Egypt now trades as dubizzle, alongside Bayut. In February 2025 Dubizzle Group bought Hatla2ee, a car marketplace founded in 2016 that reports over 2 million monthly visitors. Terms were not disclosed, and Hatla2ee is being folded into dubizzle's Egyptian operations279. Property is crowded. Similarweb lists Bayut, Property Finder, dubizzle, Nawy and SemsarMasr as Aqarmap's closest rivals280. dubizzle.com.eg ranks 57th among Egyptian websites281.

Morocco and Tunisia

Norway's Schibsted, which ran Bikhir.ma, took a majority of its rival Avito.ma in a 2014 merger and kept the Avito name; it also built up Tayara282. Frontier Digital Ventures now owns 100% of both. Its North African division grew revenue 22% to A$5.4 million in the first half of 2025, with A$0.6 million of EBITDA. FDV credits a focus on core classifieds and offline events244. Similarweb ranks avito.ma 16th among Moroccan websites283. Tayara ranks only 52nd in Tunisia, possibly because much Tunisian trading happens in its app or on Facebook284. Revenue per country is small, so these markets suit lean, low-cost operators.

Algeria

Ouedkniss is Algeria's homegrown leader. It covers property, cars, spare parts, phones and electronics, with prices in dinars. It was still hiring developers in Algiers in 2025285. Similarweb ranks ouedkniss.com 16th among all Algerian websites286. No foreign group runs a rival site of similar reach in the sources reviewed.

Nigeria

Jiji started in Lagos in 2014 as a free classifieds site. In 2021 it bought Cars45, which it renamed Jiji Cars a year later24. Basic ads are free, and Jiji earns from premium placement and seller services. In 2026 it said it serves more than 90 million users17. The source does not say how that figure is measured, so treat it with care. Similarweb ranks jiji.ng 27th among Nigerian websites287.

Property is split. Nigeria Property Centre's closest rivals are PropertyPro, Private Property Nigeria and several smaller portals288. Social selling is strong here: 69% of Nigerian social media users have bought or sold on it248.

Ghana

Jiji took over OLX Ghana in 2019 and Tonaton, its main local rival, in February 202224. Ghana now has one dominant general site. See also top classifieds websites in Ghana. Jobberman, launched by One Africa Media, became part of Ringier One Africa Media (ROAM) in 2017289. Its current ownership could not be confirmed.

Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Ethiopia

East Africa is Jiji's second home. It took over OLX's Kenyan, Ugandan and Tanzanian businesses in 2019 and launched in Ethiopia in 202024. In Kenya its main web rivals are Jumia, PigiaMe, BuyRentKenya and Property24 Kenya. Similarweb ranks jiji.co.ke 43rd in Kenya and estimates a 9% fall in traffic from August to September 2026290. PigiaMe, BrighterMonday (jobs) and ZoomTanzania went into ROAM, a 2017 joint venture between Switzerland's Ringier and One Africa Media, whose backers were Tiger Global and SEEK289. In Kenya, 65% of social media users have bought or sold on social media248.

South Africa

South Africa is the only market in the region where Prosus's OLX Group still competes, and it does so through verticals. It closed OLX's general site in February 2022 and sent users to its own AutoTrader and Property24291. In its half-year to September 2025, OLX Group as a whole (all countries, not only South Africa) reported $473 million in revenue, up 22%, at a 49% EBITDA margin. It called AutoTrader the top partner for South African car dealers292.

Adevinta sold Gumtree South Africa, launched in 2004, to Impresa Capital, the majority owner of Ignition Group, in 2022293. No 2025-2026 reports of a closure or sale were found. Similarweb ranks gumtree.co.za only 95th among South African websites. Its closest rivals are Junk Mail, AutoTrader and WeBuyCars294.

The verticals face regulators. The Competition Commission's 2023 online markets inquiry found that AutoTrader and Cars.co.za held over 80% of car listings between them. It ordered Property24 and Private Property to stop charging for incoming listings and to end multi-year contracts with large agencies. It also required cheaper packages for small agents and dealers295. See also top classified websites in South Africa.

Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon and Francophone West Africa

French-speaking West Africa has no Jiji-sized leader. Expat-Dakar, a Senegalese site for housing, jobs, cars and phones, described itself in a March 2025 job ad as having over 500,000 unique visitors and 40,000 ads a month296. It was one of Ringier's contributions to ROAM in 2017289. CoinAfrique was founded in Dakar in 2015 by Matthias Papet and Eric Genêtre, with offices in Cotonou, Lomé, Abidjan and Douala. It passed 500,000 active users in 2019297. No newer figures were found. Jiji opened sites for Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire around 2022 and for the Republic of the Congo in 202524.

Zambia and Zimbabwe

No verified data was found on the leading classifieds sites in Zambia or Zimbabwe. In 2017 ROAM named Zimbabwe's Classifieds.co.zw and Property.co.zw as planned partners289. Their current status is unknown. Neither country appears in Jiji's list of markets24.

Gaps

  • Francophone West and Central Africa. Jiji's growth has gone to English-speaking Africa and Bangladesh, and the best-known local players report only modest audiences, such as Expat-Dakar's self-reported 500,000 monthly unique visitors296.
  • Zambia, Zimbabwe and Southern Africa outside South Africa. Jiji, the region's biggest general classifieds group, does not operate in these countries, and no other regional group was found there24.
  • Lebanon. Dubizzle Group's list of dubizzle countries leaves out Lebanon, so the market has no clear well-funded leader243.
  • General classifieds in South Africa. OLX's general site is gone, and Gumtree ranks only 95th among South African websites, so the space between AutoTrader, Property24 and Facebook Marketplace is open294.
  • Small-agent property and car tools in South Africa. The regulator ordered the portals to offer cheaper packages for small agents and dealers, which points to a group that is badly served today295.
  • Transactions on top of free listings in the Gulf and Levant. OpenSooq earns about $0.05 per internet user against about $30 for global leaders, so services such as payments, delivery and rentals have plenty of room to grow271.
  • Social sellers in Nigeria and Kenya. Most social media users there already buy or sell on Facebook and WhatsApp. A site that offers them trust features, such as verified sellers and safe payment, has a ready audience248.

Asia and the Pacific

Asia and the Pacific does not follow the European pattern of one or two global groups owning the top site in most countries. Some markets are run by home-grown champions. Others are owned by groups from the Gulf or Singapore, or by a listed car-portal company. In much of the region the first place people look is a social app. In India, OLX still has one of the best-known names, but since August 2023 it has belonged to CarTrade Tech, the listed owner of CarWale. CarTrade paid INR 535.54 crore for the business that held OLX India's classifieds platform and its car-buying arm298. In Pakistan, OLX has been run since 2020 by EMPG, the group behind Zameen.com. EMPG now trades as Dubizzle Group, and Prosus's OLX Group became its largest single shareholder in the merger299. Across Southeast Asia, Singapore's Carousell Group runs Carousell, Mudah.my in Malaysia and Chợ Tốt in Vietnam27.

East Asia is different again. Its leaders are domestic second-hand apps with payments and shipping built in. In China that is Alibaba's Xianyu, which says it has more than 600 million users9. In Japan it is Mercari, and in South Korea it is Danggeun Market (Karrot outside Korea), which reports more than 21 million monthly active users15. In Australia and New Zealand, the money sits in vertical portals: REA Group and Domain for property, CAR Group (carsales) for cars and SEEK for jobs. General classifieds there are a smaller and harder business.

Several things changed in 2025-2026. CoStar, the US property data group, completed its purchase of Domain in August 2025 to take on REA300. Trade Me dropped its success fee for casual sellers in March 2026, a move that experts quoted by RNZ linked to pressure from Facebook Marketplace301. Carousell reached positive EBITDA for the first time. EBITDA means earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization. More of Carousell's revenue now comes from "recommerce", meaning it buys, checks and resells used goods itself27.

Facebook Marketplace is a major rival almost everywhere in the region. It matters most in the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, Myanmar, Taiwan and the Pacific islands, where it is the leader or a close second. The table names it only in those countries.

India

OLX India and Quikr were once the two big general sites. Only OLX still has scale. CarTrade Tech bought it in August 2023, together with OLX's car-buying business. At the time, the OLX assets brought about 68 million average monthly unique visitors and 32 million listings a year298. OLX India is a small but profitable unit inside CarTrade, the listed group behind CarWale, BikeWale and CarTrade. In the October-December 2025 quarter, OLX India's revenue rose 18% to Rs 58.7 crore and its profit rose 37% to Rs 20.1 crore308. Basic ads are free. OLX charges for packages that let a seller post more ads than the free limit or push an ad higher in the results.

Quikr has been shrinking for years. Its revenue fell 45% in the year to March 2021, while it still lost Rs 55.48 crore309. The money is in the verticals. Info Edge owns Naukri (jobs) and 99acres (property). In January-March 2026 its recruitment business earned about ₹581 crore, and 99acres made a small profit before tax, after a ₹20 crore loss the quarter before310. In property, REA Group agreed in July 2026 to sell Housing.com to Aurum PropTech and keep a 24.9% stake in Aurum23. For a newcomer, the lesson is that India rewards vertical depth. A generalist has to fight both OLX and WhatsApp groups. See also our earlier post on the most popular classifieds sites in India.

Pakistan

Pakistan's classifieds are concentrated in one group. In 2020, EMPG, the Dubai-based parent of Zameen.com, merged with OLX Group's businesses in Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon and the UAE. OLX Group took a 39% stake and became the largest shareholder, and both brands kept running under their local names299. EMPG now trades as Dubizzle Group, which postponed its Dubai IPO in October 2025 (see the Middle East section)245. So OLX Pakistan (general goods) and Zameen (property) share an owner whose attention is on the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

PakWheels is the independent car site. It also runs car shows: its 2025 New Wheels Expo opened in Lahore and moved to Karachi in September 2025311. Posting on OLX Pakistan is free, with paid features to promote an ad. Facebook Marketplace is OLX's main rival for low-value goods.

Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal

Bikroy leads in Bangladesh, and in May 2026 it was bought by Jiji, the African classifieds group, which will keep the Bikroy brand17. Bikroy marked its 14th year in June 2025. It says it has connected more than 20 million sellers with over 50 million potential buyers, and it was the first site in the country to sell sacrificial cattle for Eid online. It announced AI tools to write ad descriptions and catch fake reviews312. In Sri Lanka, ikman.lk is the best-known classifieds site. It launched in 2012 and is run by Saltside Technologies. We found no notable 2025-2026 news on ikman beyond normal operations.

In Nepal, Hamrobazar is the leading local classifieds site. Listing is free and it earns from display ads313. Its founder sold it to MNS Investments in 2021, reportedly for about 10 crore rupees314. In all three countries, Facebook groups carry much of the trade in phones, motorbikes and rentals. The local sites hold their lead mainly in vehicles and property.

China

China's classifieds market split in two. Second-hand goods moved to Xianyu (Idle Fish), Alibaba's resale app, launched in 2012. It says it has more than 600 million users, and in 2024 9.5 million of them used it for side jobs such as errands, tutoring or résumé writing9. Xianyu was free for years. Since mid-2023 it has charged a 1% service fee on the share of a seller's sales above 10,000 yuan and 10 orders a month. Sellers it flags as commercial must accept seven-day returns9.

58.com, once China's Craigslist, is now privately held by the investor Ocean Link. It owns Anjuke, a leading property portal, and in September 2024 it bought Gumtree UK62. Foreign classifieds sites do not operate in China.

Japan

Japan's consumer-to-consumer market is built on apps that handle payment and shipping. Mercari is the leader. In the year to June 2026, its revenue rose 19% to a record JPY 229.3 billion43. Marketplace GMV (gross merchandise value, the total value of goods sold) rose 15% to about JPY 1.29 trillion, and the app had about 24 million monthly active users14. That was a recovery: a year earlier GMV had grown only 4%, against a 10% target315. Mercari makes money from a commission on each sale, not from listing fees.

LY Corporation (LINE Yahoo) runs the main alternatives, Yahoo! Auctions and Yahoo! Flea Market. Jmty (Jimoty) is the closest thing to a free local classifieds site, used for furniture, giveaways and local services that are hard to ship. Cars (Recruit's Carsensor), property (SUUMO, LIFULL HOME'S) and jobs (Indeed, Rikunabi) are dominated by big domestic media groups. A newcomer would find most openings in local, uncommon or bulky goods that the shipping apps do not handle well.

South Korea

Danggeun Market (Karrot outside Korea) is one of Asia's strongest classifieds brands. Its name means "your neighborhood market". It shows only listings near the user, so buyers and sellers meet in person. In 2025 its consolidated revenue rose 43% to 270.7 billion won, with an operating profit of 14.6 billion won. It reports more than 21 million monthly active users in Korea15. Almost all of its revenue comes from local ads, so posting stays free. The same report says advertisers grew 37% in 2025.

Karrot has been building abroad for several years. It passed one million registered users in Canada in 2024, two years after launch, and it also runs in parts of the United States316. The 2026 report also lists Japan as a Karrot market15. Korea's car vertical is Encar, in which Australia's CAR Group has invested. CAR Group's Asia revenue rose 15% at constant currency in its year to June 2026317.

Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan

Carousell started in Singapore in 2012. It is the default resale app there and in Hong Kong, and it also serves Taiwan and Macau. In Taiwan it competes with Yahoo! and Ruten318. In 2025 Carousell Group's revenue rose 18% to $141 million (the report does not say which dollar), and it reported positive EBITDA for the first time. It did not publish its net result. Recommerce revenue grew 40% and made up 45% of the total. The group had 29 physical stores at the end of 202527. In other words, Carousell now earns almost as much from handling the sale itself as from ads and listing fees.

Property search in the region belongs to PropertyGuru. The private equity firm EQT took it private in December 2024 in a deal worth about US$1.1 billion and delisted it from the New York Stock Exchange. It operates in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam319. sgCarMart, Singapore's car portal, has been owned since 2022 by a consortium led by Toyota Financial Services, which bought it from SPH for S$150 million320. Taiwan has no single dominant general classifieds site. Trade is split between Facebook, Shopee and Ruten, with 591 for property and 8891 for cars.

Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines

Mudah.my has led Malaysian classifieds since before Carousell bought it. It came with the 2019 merger with Telenor's 701Search, which also brought Chợ Tốt in Vietnam and OneKyat in Myanmar. All three kept their local brands318. Mudah is free for a basic private ad, with paid bumps and dealer packages. Cars are its biggest earner.

Indonesia is still served by OLX Indonesia. It began as Tokobagus and was rebranded as OLX in 2014. Prosus announced in 2023 that it would exit its OLX Autos businesses, including Indonesia's. We could not confirm who controls the Indonesian classifieds site in 2026, so treat the owner in the table as unconfirmed. Carousell entered the Philippines by buying OLX Philippines in April 2019318. Even so, Facebook Marketplace and Facebook groups are where much person-to-person trade in the Philippines happens. Newcomers in these three markets compete more with Facebook and with Shopee's and Lazada's used-goods sections than with each other. See also top classified sites in the Philippines.

Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar

Kaidee has a complicated history. It started in 2011 as dealfish.co.th, was rebranded as OLX Thailand in 2014, and became Kaidee later that year in a joint venture of Naspers, Schibsted, Telenor and SPH. EMPG bought it in 2020. In 2023, filings showed EMPG joining the shareholder register of Carro, the Singapore used-car company, and Carro is now reported as Kaidee's parent321. No company has formally announced that deal, so treat the ownership as reported. Kaidee also runs property and motorcycle sections. See also the most popular classified sites in Thailand.

In Vietnam, Chợ Tốt is the clear general leader. Carousell owns it, and it has spin-off verticals for cars and property27. Batdongsan.com.vn, the main property portal, has belonged to PropertyGuru since a merger completed in 2018322. Cambodia's main local site is Khmer24. In Myanmar, OneKyat came to Carousell in 2019, but we found no recent sign that it is active. Since the 2021 coup, trade there runs mostly through Facebook pages and groups.

Australia

Australia shows how the value has moved to vertical sites. realestate.com.au, owned by REA Group (majority-owned by News Corp), is the property leader. In the year to June 2026, REA's core revenue rose 7% to A$1,793 million (A$1,730 million, up 12%, from continuing operations, which leave out India) and its net profit rose 15% to A$650 million, even though the number of homes listed for sale stayed flat. Growth came from price rises: Premiere+, its top listing product, rose 7% on average, and REA plans an 8% rise in the year to June 202723. CoStar completed its purchase of Domain in August 2025300. Domain then capped yearly price rises for agents and vendors at 4% from July 2026 and added free 3D tours and drone photos to its premium packages323. It has also sued REA over REA's "9 in 10 properties" advertising claim.

carsales (CAR Group) leads cars. Its Australian revenue rose 7% in the year to June 2026, and group revenue reached about A$1.25 billion317. SEEK leads jobs. Its sales revenue rose 17% to A$1,284 million, while job ad volumes were softer, especially in Australia324.

Gumtree is the general site that is struggling. eBay sold it in 2021 with CarsGuide and Autotrader to Adevinta, which sold the bundle to The Market Herald in 2022325. The company now trades as Gumtree Australia Markets and sold its stock-forum business (HotCopper) in 2025. In the year to June 2026, its revenue fell 7% to A$69.6 million, but it returned to a A$3.5 million pre-tax profit. It reports about four million monthly unique users326. For everyday used goods, Facebook Marketplace is now the main channel. See also the best classifieds sites in Australia.

New Zealand and the Pacific

Trade Me is unusual: it is still a national general marketplace that also leads in cars, property and jobs. Apax Partners has owned it since taking it private in 2019. In March 2026 it scrapped the 7.9% success fee for casual sellers and stopped allowing bank transfers. Ping, Trade Me's own payment method, is now on every listing. The seller pays 2.19% and buyers pay a service fee of 99c to $4.99 on items over $20. Trade Me said 90% of the scams it could not help with in 2025 involved bank transfers. A Massey University marketing academic said Facebook Marketplace is "snapping at their heels"301. See also top New Zealand classified websites.

In Fiji and the smaller Pacific islands, the markets are too small for a portal business. Trade runs through Facebook groups, local newspaper classifieds and a few local sites. See Fiji's classified sites.

How it started: How Trade Me got its first sellers, from our Marketplace teardowns series.

Gaps

  • Australian general classifieds. Gumtree's revenue fell 7% in its latest year, and Facebook Marketplace now holds everyday used goods, so the general category has no strong local leader326.
  • Low-cost property advertising in Australia. REA raised its top listing price about 7% last year and plans 8% more while listing numbers stay flat23, and Domain's 4% cap shows that agents care about price323.
  • Pure classifieds in Carousell's markets. Carousell is moving toward recommerce, now 45% of its revenue. That leaves room for simple, cheap listing sites in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the Philippines27.
  • India beyond OLX. Quikr has been shrinking for years, so OLX has little general competition outside Facebook and WhatsApp groups. Niche and city sites face a thin field309.
  • Thailand. Kaidee has passed between four owner groups and its current ownership has never been formally announced, so it is unclear who is investing in it321.
  • Japan's local, non-shippable goods. Mercari grew GMV 15% in its latest year, but it is built around shipped goods. Furniture, giveaways and local services that are hard to ship are left mostly to Jmty14.
  • Nepal and other smaller South Asian markets. Hamrobazar, the leader in Nepal, is a small independent site whose revenue is display ads. Vertical sites for cars and rentals there are thin314.

Where no local site leads: 20 openings for 2026

Most countries in this report have a strong leader. Some do not, and those are the places where a new classifieds site has the best odds. These are the openings our research found, roughly from the largest to the most niche. "Opening" does not mean easy: Facebook Marketplace and WhatsApp groups are the real rivals almost everywhere, and a new site has to be clearly better than them for one group of people.

Whole countries without a local general leader

  1. Mexico. Segundamano closed in 2023 and OLX Autos left the same year, so general classifieds are split between Facebook Marketplace and Mercado Libre223.
  2. Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. OLX left all three in 2022 and 2023, and no local general site has taken its place6.
  3. Francophone West and Central Africa. Jiji grew in English-speaking Africa and Bangladesh. In Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire and Cameroon the best-known sites report modest audiences296.
  4. Zambia, Zimbabwe and southern Africa outside South Africa. Jiji does not operate there, and we found no other regional group24.
  5. Lebanon. Dubizzle Group's own list of countries leaves it out, so there is no well-funded leader243.
  6. Luxembourg and Iceland. Too small for the big groups. Bland.is ranks only 31st among Icelandic websites, and we found no leading site in Luxembourg122.

Leaders that are weak, shrinking or changing owner

  1. US local selling. Craigslist's revenue is about 70% below its 2018 peak, and OfferUp cut 22% of its staff in December 202442.
  2. UK general goods. Gumtree was sold without an announcement to Ocean Link and 58.com and ranks far below Vinted among UK websites63.
  3. Australian general goods. Gumtree Australia's revenue fell 7% in its latest year, and Facebook Marketplace holds everyday second-hand goods326.
  4. South Africa. OLX's general site is gone, and Gumtree ranks only 95th among South African websites294.
  5. India beyond OLX. Quikr has been shrinking for years, so outside Facebook and WhatsApp groups the field for city and niche sites is thin309.
  6. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. OLX's sites there are moving to a telecom company and a bank, and new owners often change prices and teams127.
  7. Spain after the sale. Milanuncios now belongs to EQT and Wallapop to Naver. The Spanish tech press expects Wallapop's fees to rise92.
  8. Thailand. Kaidee has passed between several owners, and its current owner has never been formally announced321.

Categories that are open even where the general leader is strong

  1. Property in Ukraine. OLX only started piloting a separate property site, Otodim, in May 2026166.
  2. Cheaper property advertising in Australia and South Africa. REA plans an 8% rise in its top listing price, CoStar's Domain capped its rises at 4% to win agents, and South Africa's competition regulator ordered cheaper packages for small agents and dealers295,323.
  3. Car selling tools in Turkey. Sahibinden agreed not to use its listings to push its own Otobid car auctions, which leaves room for independent services129.
  4. Local services in Poland. OLX agreed to sell Fixly, its services platform, in October 2025128.
  5. Local goods that don't ship well in Japan. Mercari, the leader, is built around shipped goods. Furniture, giveaways and local services are left mostly to Jmty14.
  6. Trusted selling for social sellers in Nigeria and Kenya. About two in three social media users there have bought or sold on social media, mostly Facebook and WhatsApp. Those channels lack verified sellers and safe payment248.

Where people started new classifieds sites in 2026

Yclas hosts classifieds sites for customers in more than 80 countries, which gives us a small window on where people are starting new ones. From January to October 2026, 1,317 new sites were created on Yclas by people in 83 countries. This counts every site created, including trials that were never finished, so it measures interest rather than success.

New classifieds sites created on Yclas, January to October 2026, by country

United Kingdom1.7%22 sites
Nigeria1.7%22 sites

Two things stand out. Demand is strongest in South Asia: India, Pakistan and Bangladesh together account for almost half of all new sites, and Nigeria is in the top ten. And in the rich markets, the new sites that get going are mostly niche ones. In the US, Australia, Canada and the UK, many of the busiest new sites of 2026 serve one community or one category: snow vehicles, trucks, horses, pets, one town's garage sales. The general category there belongs to Facebook and the old leaders.

What this means if you are starting a classifieds site

The groups in this report spend millions on brand, apps and sales teams. A new site cannot beat them at their own game, but the report shows four places where small sites still win.

Pick a category the general sites serve badly. The richest classifieds businesses are vertical: cars, property, jobs. Their margins of 60% or more show what buyers and sellers will pay for a site built for their category30. The big verticals cover mass categories in big countries. Everything below that, from farm machinery to classic motorbikes to rentals in a small country, is open.

Go where the big groups left. OLX, Adevinta and others pulled out of most of Latin America, Central Asia and parts of Africa. Leaving was a business decision for a global group, not proof that local demand is gone. Facebook Marketplace fills the gap, but it is a weak home for anything that needs filters, trust or a professional seller.

Make trust the product. The most common complaint about Facebook Marketplace is scams, and the big sites now sell safety as a feature: verified sellers, held payments, ID checks33. A small community site where every seller is known, and moderated by someone, can offer the same promise for its niche.

Charge businesses, keep it free for people. Almost every leader in this report lets private sellers post for free and charges dealers, agents and employers, through listing packages, featured ads or monthly plans. It is the model that took Craigslist, Leboncoin and Avito to the top, and it still works on a small scale.

If you want to build one, Yclas is the classifieds software we make. You can start a classifieds site with free posting, paid plans for business sellers and featured ads, and see our guides on how to make money from a classifieds site.

Questions people ask about classifieds in 2026

What is the biggest classifieds site in the world? By free local listings, Facebook Marketplace, though Meta publishes no figures for it. Among dedicated sites, Zillow (US property) has the largest audience we found, with 235 million average monthly unique users in 2025, and China's Xianyu claims more than 600 million users. Among general classifieds sites, Leboncoin, Craigslist, OLX Brasil and Avito each draw tens of millions of visits a month.

Is Craigslist still the biggest classifieds site in the US? It is still the top general classifieds site in the US by traffic, but its revenue has fallen by about 70% since 2018, and most local buying and selling has moved to Facebook Marketplace42.

Who owns OLX now? OLX belongs to Prosus, the Amsterdam-listed group controlled by South Africa's Naspers. It now runs in a short list of markets, mainly Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Portugal, Ukraine, South Africa, France (La Centrale) and Brazil (a joint venture with Adevinta)7. Some countries' former OLX sites belong to others: Dubizzle Group in Pakistan and Egypt, Jiji in much of Africa and CarTrade Tech in India.

Who owns Adevinta, Leboncoin and Kleinanzeigen? A group led by the buyout firms Permira and Blackstone, since May 2024. Adevinta still owns Leboncoin, Kleinanzeigen, mobile.de, Marktplaats, 2dehands, Subito and Kijiji, but has sold its Irish business, its stake in Austria's willhaben and its Spanish business.

Are classifieds sites still free to post on? For private sellers, mostly yes. Most leaders let individuals post for free in the main categories and charge for extras such as featured ads, or charge a fee when they handle the payment and shipping. Cars, property and jobs are the usual exceptions, where sellers, agents or employers pay to list.

Will this report be updated? Yes, every year, at this same address. If you run a classifieds site and think we have your country wrong, tell us through the chat on this page and we will check it for the next edition.
